INTRODUCTION TO THE EVENT Sanford Hopusing Co-op is organising this event to get a clearer picture of the Alternative Housing scene. When we say "Alternative", we refer to those organisations and individuals outside the usual spectrum of housing management (eg Housing Associations). ALthough not a cohesive group, they are based on ideals over and above simply providing housing. We are hoping to attract thinkers and do-ers from a variety of groups including housing and service co-operatives, squats, co-housing, eco-housing. The aim is to compare visions of moving forward in the current underground political/social/economic climate of localisation, decentralisation and anti-globalisation. Comparing pragmatic solutions and real-world challenges, we can share knowledge and find common ground with similar organisations. At the end of the event, we hope everyone will leave with a clearer vision and a better idea of the broader movement.
