Network Setup Wizard

We will use this process to ensure that the broadband connection profile is using the correct network adapter for its connection.

1) Click Start and navigate to: ALL PROGRAMS-->ACCESSORIES-->COMMUNICATIONS-->NETWORK SETUP WIZARD.

2) Click next on the first screen of the wizard

3) Click next on the second screen also

4) If you receive a screen refering to disconnected hardware it means that one or more network adapters have been disconnected. If this has been done intentionally select "ignore disconnected network hardware" and click next. Otherwise, connect the adapter and start the wizard over. If nothing is disconnected the wizard will proceed to the next step.

5) Because we are configuring a stand-alone connection, select "other" on this screen and click next.

6) Select "this computer connects directly to the internet. I do not have a network yet" and click next.

7) Select the appropriate adapter and click next. *In the case of a usb modem, select the modem itself, in the case of an ethernet modem, select the nic that the modem is using.* Click next.

8) The computer desciption and name are not important in our case, anything should suffice. Click next.

9) The network name is not important in our case either, anything should suffice. Click Next

10) This is an overview of settings. Click next.

11) This should basically be the last step of the process, except for a "finish" screen. Click next to complete the wizard.

12) *Note: This wizard enables a nic firewall by default. You may wish to uncheck this option in the local area network properties for the nic.* For a walk through to Network Connections click here.
