Installing the Alcatel USB

If you have had difficulties installing the alcatel usb modem using the sbc express program, you may want to attempt this process, as it seems to be a less problematic installation in some circumstances.

1) If an installation attempt has already been made, and has failed, it is important to first remove any installed alcatel components. To do this, UNPLUG THE MODEM! from the usb port, and make sure that the sbc express cd is in the cd rom drive and not running, then right click start and left click explore. If an installation attempt has never been made skip to step 12.

*Note - this walk through assusmes the end user has sbc express v 1.0.5, if the end user has v 2.0 the path to the setup install shield file is x:\Drivers\Alcatel\usb\setup.exe*

2) On the left side of the explorer window select the cd rom drive, and double click the installs folder on the right side.

3) double click the setup folder

4) double click the alcatel folder

5) double click the usb folder

6) double click the setup (install shield) file

7) This will launch the installation wizard

8) If there has been a previous installation attempt, the wizard will detect it, and ask you whether to repair or remove it. The selection should be defaulted to remove. Click next.

9) Click OK

10) Click finish

11) When the wizard has completed REBOOT!

12) After the computer has rebooted and the end user is logged into their (admin) desktop, plug the modem back into the usb port. This should launch the new hardware wizard. The wizard should be defaulted to "install the software automatically". Click Next.

13) The wizard will not identify the device properly until it scans the cd rom. Be patient.

14) The wizard will begin copying files after it reads the cd rom.

15) It will then launch the install shield.

16) The install shield will then launch the license agreement. The end user must click yes to continue.

17) Click next

18) Click next

19) A windows logo message will appear, click continue anyway.

20) Click finish.

21) The new hardware wizard will appear again. Click next.

22) The wizard will search for drivers
