Occupants of one of the flats at Rocky Mewes have left their dwelling and refuse to return until the owners, Glass Cages Limited, have removed the apparition they claim is haunting it. They described the apparition as that of a short man, very hairy and filthy in appearance, with staring eyes, who comes to their bedside at night and recites strings of meaningless words at them. "We have been unable to sleep for the last four nights," said Rita DoLlars. "The sound of his high-pitched nasal whine is like a white-hot poker in the brain and his untidy appearance disturbs the neatness of the flat." The couple have also experienced a strong smell of body odour and whiskey about the flat in the day time. Rocky Mewes was built just recently on what had been the site of the hovel of the late "Poet Of The People", Dara McDaid. Coincidentally, Mr and Mrs DoLlars' flat is exactly on the spot where the poet's hovel had stood. Fiacra O'Ferrule of the local Poets Spiral (Spiraling Ever Outwards, Spiraling Ever Inwards) gave it as his opinion that the late poet was trying to communicate a hitherto unknown poem, or collection of poems to them. "It is our intention," he told this reporter, "to hold a seance in the flat, in an effort to transcribe the poem or poems. I am sure that once this has been done, O'Daid will leave the DoLlars in peace." He also intimated that the refusal of Glass Cages to provide a plaque to the poet's memory, could have accentuated the haunting. Glass Cages Limited were reticent when approached for their views, but denied any responsibility for the presence of any alleged ghost. However they admitted that, "as a good will gesture", they were considering the possibility of bringing in a "Ghost Exterminator". The reaction of The Poets Spiral to this news was to accuse the company of trying to erase the memory of someone whose life and work had been an embarrassment and a reproach to the material world they stood for. It is also understood that a figure from the local spiritual underworld, known only as "The Shadow" has approached the DoLlars and offered to exorcise the ghost, either partially or totally, for a fee. This reporter contacted The Shadow and asked what he meant by "Partial Exorcism". The Shadow explained that a partial exorcism consisted of putting the spirit under restraint rather than banishing it altogether. In essence, while still resident, the spirit would be under the control of the DoLlars who could exploit it in any way they saw fit. When asked what he meant by "exploit", The Shadow became evasive and refused to comment further. |
