Gothic Settings And The Anxieties/Fears They Represent:

Gothic settings often remain the same: a haunted house, the woods at night. But why? Why do certain settings appear in most gothic literature and/or films? Because they are representations of fears that haunt each of us.

      Setting: Fear:
        secluded
        isolation
        at night
        skewed perception, the unknown
        woods/forest
        the unknown
        castles
        decay
        churches
        corruption
        grave yards
        death
        thunderstorm
        conflict
        full moon
        change, animal behavior
        fog/mist
        faceless/nameless fear
