Bobby Moore OBE

 

Bobby Moore, arguably the best defender the world has ever known. Certainly West Ham's most famous son and Englands best ever Captain. Bobby Moore was born in Barking on 12th April 1941. He played at the highest level for school and district and their was never any doubt that he would move the short distance along the Barking road, to take up a professional career with local favourites and team he supported. 'West Ham United'.

Bobby Moore had a long and successful career, he won the FA Cup with West Ham in 1964. Then the following season added the European Cup Winners cup to the Hammers trophy room. Bobby is of course best known by the rest of the world as the captain of England during their one and only success. World Cup winners at Wembley in 1966.

Bobby Moore died in February 1993 aged 51 after a long battle agains't Cancer. The whole football world went into mourning and such was the mans stature, that people all over the country who had no real interest in football were deeply touched by the loss of West Ham and Englands number 6.
