Texas Hold'em Strategy depends on the type of game you are playing and also on the style of your opponents. Players who desperately need the most
advise are beginners who have ventured out into the real money tables and started playing for low limit. Low limit tables are generally loose meaning
many of the players are playing many hands and there is little folding and there are sometimes several contestants at the showdown. This may cause a new
player to follow suit and play every hand that is dealt. This is not a good strategy. You will want to know which pair of hands are worth playing and which ones
to throw away immedietely. So... how do you know what pairs are good and which are bad? Well.. it so happens that there are only 169 unique pairs of holdem hands
that you can be dealt.. and each one has a known rank that has been proved by computer simulations and real time data. Some pairs just plain simple win more than others
and some are losers. You can find this chart from our strategy section at download-texas-holdem-poker.com
You will also find our mini app "HoldemHelper" that will tell you exactly where the pair is ranked relative to all the others. Basically, the best pairs are the face cards AA KK QQ KA(suited) etc.. and
the worse ones are the low numbers like 72(unsuited). High suited cards (chance for a flush) are nice. Pairs are good for heads up play but unless they are high pairs, they are not as valuable against
alot of players since any higher pair will beat em and the chance for a set is not that good. The mini app "HoldemHelper is invaluable in this regard. You will be alerted to
junk pairs like j2 q3 unsuited. You will be surprised and how many people play these all the way to the river. No good!. j and Q are dominated by K and A. Your chances of coming our second best is high.
and second best does not count in poker. Play only pairs that appear in the top 65-75% and higher in the ranking chart. When you get a playable hand, start betting before the flop.
Beginners love to call and challenge you. It puts money in the pot and also drags weak dominated hands into continuing to bet. However, if the flop goes against you
and the betting starts getting scary, dont be afraid to fold. Most of the big lossed come from going all the way to the river with a weak hand and not from folding early. When you go to the river,
you want to be the one that is doing all the betting and not the one getting dragged along for the ride with a weak hand. When you play loose tables like the ones at the low limit section of..
PacificPoker.com
you will inevitably see some bad beats. This is not a bad thing. It gives the loose players something
to look forward to as they play those j3 and q4 cards all the way to the river. Keep an eye on how the
community cards are shaping up. If it looks like a straight or a flush is imminent, and the betting gets
hot, back off and let everyone else duke it out unless you hold a good chance winner. Let someone else
reveal who the bluffers are. Also watch out lots of preflop betting early. Even though collusion is rare, it could
happen and the system can only detect it after a pattern is established, and you dont want to be on the receiving end
of such shenanigans. Remember, if you are not doing the betting, you probably should be folding.
Ever wonder what the winning chance for a certain pair was against the flop vs another pair, well now
you can play our own free single player holdem game below that tells you exactly what the winning
chance is for each pair on the board. The game deals 5 pairs and and flop and lets you select which one you think
will win. AT the showdown, the % chance to win is displayed for each pair so you can see if you picked the best
pair. A good way to see exactly how the turn and river cards affect the outcome and you can also see
how the high preflop ratings end up winning many of the sessions.
