Feel the rock
It's been here since 1/2/03. Updated when I can, last on the April 1st, 2004 - TODAY

Strange but false fact of the update: Stevie Wonder isn't actually blind at all. But he is deaf...!

Thursday, 1st April 2004

onelinedrawing, New End Original and Far superhero, Jonah Matranga's new band, Gratitude have signed to Atlantic Records, and will keep the likes of Billy Talent and Poison The Well company on the label's roster. While we're on an emo tip, Mae's video for the rather spiffing 'Embers And Envelopes' is available for download on MTV. I'm sure you can find your own link for that one...

If you've never been over to Punktastic.com, I suggest you pop over there forthwith. Not only is it an online 'zine, but now a record label, and has a comp coming out called 'Punktastic Un-Scene', and features contributions from the likes of My Awesome Compilation (who support Brand New on their only headlining show at the Sheffield Leadmill between Incubus gigs), Not Katies and The Killerest Expression' among others. It'll be available - shock, and indeed horror - in your local big record shop. Keep it up, chaps.

Tours announced today include The Dirty Americans (stopping in Manchester, Glasgow, and Nottingham), and eek!, My Ruin, who will continue to flog a dead horse with The Suffrajets in tow. And no, The Starting Line aren't going to be touring the UK in June after all, but a little birdy tells me that they could be back towards the end of the years as part of the Drive Thru Invasion Tour alongside The Early November and others.

Marilyn Manson's revolving guitarist policy continues with news that John "who the fuck's that" 5 has fled Mazza's dark nest. The band will, however, continue to records new material for their planned best of set later in the year. For more info, visit doireallygiveashit.com.

As you're probably aware, Alex Pappas has indeed left Finch. However, he's only gone and cropped up as drummer for the accrid waste of soundwaves that is JaimesonParker. He's going to hell in a hand cart.

More personnel shifting news is that Martin McCarrick is no longer Therapy?'s guitarist/big-electric-cello-thing player. His departure has been described by the remaining members as "purely professional rather than personal", and plan to tour with The Wildhearts in April as a trio.

Plenty of tour rumourmongery today, as it looks as though Capdown will be replacing fiddle-fiddlers Yellowcard as the main support on Less Than Jake's forthcoming UK tour. Other than that, it's punk-pop (and one ropey emo lot) a-go-go in June, when The Starting Line, Sugarcult and Matchbook Romance will be piling in a van.

In more solid - ie, confirmed - tour news, epic Mancunian trio Amplifier celebrate the long-awaited release of their self-titled début album by supporting Span and Auf Der Mar on their respective UK jaunts next month. Oh, and pretty Welsh chaps, Lostprophets will be busying themselves supporting the not quite as well preened Metallica and Slipknot on their enormotour this summer.

Get yer robes out, because Tim DeLaughter and his exceedingly merry band of maestroes, The Polyphonic Spree, will return to your stereo on July 13th. Entitled 'Together We're Heavy', the 20-odd piece outfit's second album will emerge on Hollywood Records, after their split from 679/Atlantic Records late last year.

...and finally. In less exciting news, Sevendust have an acoustic album coming out on May 4th. Only in America. Hopefully literally this time.

The ever-quotable, erstwhile Smiths icon, Stephen Morrissey, has struck a blow to those franchises expecting to make a packet from his instantly sold-out MEN Arena gig on May 22nd from flogging you half-cooked, runny hotdogs and such. "It would be hypocritical to sing 'Meat Is Murder' amid smells of hamburgers", and has demanded that no stalls selling any meat products be allowed on the premises. Not content with that, he understandably thinks that all the contestants on Pop Idol and its ilk "should be put in a cage and sent to Thailand."

On a similar, but far more sinister culinary note, Good Riddance camped outside the KFC in Manchester this afternoon on a PETA protest. For the initiated, PETA are off their crazy little vegan tits, even if they do have a point about The Colonel and his secret blend of spices and de-beaked poultry.

Just as their 'I Brought You My Bullets...' début album finally gets an official release over here, tapped-in-the-head noisemongers My Chemical Romance will put out it's follow up, 'Three Cheers For Revenge' on June 8th. Speaking of MCR, frontman Gerard Way went, ahem, away for a couple of days last week without telling anyone, sparking a nationwide search. The excitement!

The Blood Brothers return to these shores in May supporting New York oddballs, The Liars, and continue through mainland Europe for the rest of the month. More info can be found at their eye-achingly designed website. While we're talking about support slots, Scottish mob, Aerogramme will do the honours for Thursday's forthcoming UK jaunt.

The band originally known as (hed), then successively hed(PE) and hed (Planet Earth), have now reverted back to their gramitically poor original monicker, albeit with a mostly different line up. The indecisive 'new' band will be nipping into the studio this month to record and EP for an unspecified label. Keep on scraping that barrell, lads.

...and finally. The Darkness really are taking over the world, with a plot being hatched for a street in their native Lowestoft to be named after the band. The Darkness Passage, or Hawkins Heights, anyone?

If you're interested, here's what I'm listening to at this very moment (possibly)....
1. THE DIVINE COMEDY - Come Home Billy Bird
2. THE GET UP KIDS - How Long Is Too Long
3. DECKARD - I Dream Of Dynamite
4. HUMANFLY - Humanfly Insect Party In My Mouth
5. HUNDRED REASONS - Harmony

EVERYONE READ BIZARRE!
If you've got ANY suggestions, then please tell me what I can improve on. I'm useless at that kind of thing, so your idea will probably end up being implemented. Ta.
