Cetacean Updates

2/23/08:

On January 20th 3 moves occured:
Bugs a bottlenose dolphin was moved to SWC from SWF.
Nanuq, the beluga, was moved to SWC from SWT.
The male commerson's dolphins, except for Juan, were moved to Aquatica. This is a new waterpark in Florida opening in the spring.

moves within SWC:
Zana was moved to DIP.
Kolohe was moved to RPP.

12/1/07:

Beaker is back at RPP. Captain no longer swims with her. Sadie has pretty much taken over the mother role for Captain. She is even protective over her.

Purina is now in DIP.
Steime is participating in DIPs again. After Frankie was born Steime was refusing to go into the DIP pool. It's possible Frankie will start coming in the DIP pool soon, which will make photographing her a lot easier. Plus, it will be nice to see her up close again.

11/12/07:

Buster, the common dolphin, passed away on October 31, 2007.
Duncan and Belle were moved back from the navy in October 2007. They are currently sharing a pool with Bodine in AC.
Beaker was taken out of RPP for a couple of weeks, then she was put back in for a week, but she is again in AC.

10/30/07:

The dolphins have been moved around a lot within the park, but none have moved in or out. Check the dolphin page to find out where everyone is.

8/11/07:

On July 25 Charlie and Nitro were moved to the navy. There are currently 12 dolphins at RPP.

Pepe (Commerson's dolphin) was moved to AC.

7/16/07:

Steime's calf born 5/11 is confirmed a female. Her father is Stein. She has been named Frankie.

On June 30th Ringer (commerson's dolphin) gave birth to a calf. Sadly, the calf didn't make past a few days. RIP little baby.

6/14/07:

Pascuala passed away on 6/11/07.

Sadie, a bottlenose dolphin from SWT, moved to SWC in early June. She is currently in RPP.

5/59/07:

Stein has passed away at SWC on 5/28/2007. See his bio for more information.

Sparky and Razzle are still at SWC. I was misinformed.

There was some switching around of dolphins within dolphin stadium. Steime, the calf, and Purina were moved to DIP. Sandy and Sophie were moved to the show. Check the dolphin page for that.

5/21/07:

Steime gave birth to a female calf on 5/11/07.
Deke (from the navy, and previously SWF) was moved to SWC in April. He is now in RPP as of last week.
Dottie, Cascade, Cometta, and Stein are now all back out at RPP.

4/2/07:

Sparky and Razzle are no longer at SWC. Currently, I don't know where they are but I will know shortly.
Pacino, Sydney, Kenobi and Polka are back at the stadium and performing in shows.
Steime is now in the show grouped with the girls and the pilot whales. She is there to give birth (she is due in May). She doesn't perform in shows because she is not trained for them. You may see her in the final bows sequence but that is as much as she'll do.

3/3/07:

Muk Tuk, one of the female belugas at SWC, passed away in February. RIP.

2/2/07:

Daphne's female calf, Osa, born May 2006 passed away on January 31, 2007.

1/25/07:

Katina's female calf born on 9/18/06 is named Nalanie.

I have not been to SWC since the middle of December, so I don't have any news from there. I will probably be visiting at the beginning of February.

1/1/07:

Pacino, Sydney, Kenobi and Polka are all in AC.
Cascade's calf must have died. I have not talked to anyone, but I was in AC recently. Cascade was alone.

11/5/06:

Pacino, Sydeny, Kenobi and Polka are not at the stadium because their pool is being repainted. They are in AC.
Steime is pregnant. She's the only known one but I know there are others.
Dottie is in RPP again and Maguire is back in DIP.
Purina is no longer in DIP she is in the show.
They are now using Gracie for DIP. The first session I saw her in was on 11/4/06. She was obviously new to it because the trainer kept having to grab her rostrum and move her off the platform. The trainer had to also continuely close her mouth since Gracie had it open all the time.

10/1/06:

Katina gave birth (as most know by now) on Sep. 18, 2006 to a healthy baby.
Captain and Beaker came out to RPP for Captain's public debut in the first week of Sep. Captain was 11 months old at the time. See Captain's bio for more information.
Maguire, Cometta, and Dottie were taken out of RPP. They are all three in AC. Venus is now weaned from Cometta. They left the same time Captain and Beaker were added.
While Maguire was out of RPP she was in AC. She had been a little sick. She spent a few weeks back there until she got better. Once she got better she came back out to RPP, but has since left again. I do not know why she was taken out.

7/30/06:
Maguire is no longer at RPP. I do not know where she is currently, she is probably at DIP or the show.
I'm sure Cascade has had her calf but I have heard nothing about it yet.

7/5/06:
Beaker's calf, Captain, was thought to be male but it is now known to be a female. Her name will remain Captain.
Daphne's female calf was named Osa.
Cascade was moved back to animal care because she is pregnant and due any day now.
Kolohe was moved to DIP. So you can see her for the first time without having to pay for a BTS tour.
Dottie was moved back to RPP.

6/20/06:
The Believe show opened at SWC. I have seen it and I love it.
Daphne had her calf in SWC's animal care. It's a girl.
Beaker's calf is a male. His name is Captain.
Cascade is now at RPP and she is pregnant. Bodine is also at RPP.

12/9/05:
Duncan and Belle were moved to the Navy in November.
Takara gave birth to a healthy calf 11/23/05 at SWF.
Beaker had her calf in animal care, SWC, 11/18/05.

10/16/05:
Kayla at SWT gave birth 10/9/05 but she rejected the calf. Trainers are going to hand raise it. Lets all pray the calf pulls through.
Gracie had a stillborn calf in August. She had been back at RPP for a couple of weeks but was then switched over to DIP where she is now.
Sandy had a baby on 10/6/2005 at 7:15 AM. I was able to see it when it was only 6 hours old. My report on the baby is under her bio on the dolphin page.
Belle is out at RPP, but he's locked in the wave pool with Duncan. Also it is possible he and Duncan will be switched back to AC without Belle even coming out to the petting pool. This was the first time he has been out of AC since his move to SWC from SWF in April 2004.

8/16/05:
Gracie has been moved to animal care, after spending a little time locked up in the wave pool with Stein. She had become aggressive so she was moved out. She will probably have her baby in animal care.
Two female dolphins were moved from the Navy. They are currently sharing a pool in animal care.
Duncan, 1 of 2 male dolphins that were moved to SWC from SWF last year, has moved out to RPP. He spent his first year in animal care where he shared a pool with Belle, the other male from SWF.
Belle now shares a pool with Bodine and Sparky
Allua, the beluga, was switched to SWC from Vancouver Aquarium in British Columbia in July.

5/12/05:
Gracie is pregnant and due in Aug./Sep. 2005
Venus and Cometta have moved out to RPP 4/26/05

4/14/05
Bacardi passed away in August 2004, Priscilla passed away in November 2004, Misty passed away in January 2005.

Daphne was moved to DIP from RPP at the beginning of April.
Splash passed away at noon on April 5, 2005

3/28/05: not much recent news
Dolphin news:
The dolphins have been moving within the park quite a bit, check my dolphin page for where each one is currently.
Penny has died in Florida over the summer of 2004, RIP Penny.
Beaker and Malibu both had stillborn calves over the summer of 2004.
Cometta had a female calf named Venus on July 14, 2004.

Orca news:
Kasatka has had a female calf named Kalia born on Dec. 21, 2004.
Takara and Kohana were moved to SWF, Keet, Tuar and Tekoa were moved to SWT.

8/13/04
Kalina's female calf is now named Skyla. I think the name is so cute.
I have not heard about Beaker's pregnancy.
Malibu and Pacino were moved to the show. Malibu is pregnant and due in September.
July 14, 2004 at 12:20 P.M. Cometta had her calf.
April 2004: 1 dolphin from Discovery Cove and 3 dolphins from SWF were transported to SWC. Their names are Ripley (F), Belle (M), Duncan (M) and Razzle (M). Ripley and Razzle are at RPP, the other two are still in animal care.
April 2004: Sharkey, Copper, Penny and Madison (bottlenose dolphins) were transported to Florida's Discovery Cove from SWC.
4/25/04: Tekoa and Tuar were transported to Florida from Texas.
4/24/2004: Takara and Kohana were transported to Florida. Keet was transported to Texas.
2/17/04:
2/9/04: The best news of all, on Feb 9th Kalina (SWF) had her baby at about 10 PM (my birthday btw :) )
Beaker, Malibu and Cometta at RPP are all pregnant.
Scarback and Beaker are now back at RPP after spending a few months in animal care
Orkid and Kasatka are thought to both be pregnant. It is thought that a male at SWC is the father (through artificial insemination) to both babies. Kasatka is thought to be about 9 months pregnant, Orkid may be due in March of 2005. That would be great to see Orkid pregnant for the first time (and with one of the SWC bulls, hopefully Ulises! who has yet to father any calves).

12/12/03: The saddest news of all. Keiko, famous for the Free Willy movies, died in Norway. RIP Keiko!

11/21/03: Because my site has been down for a few months, I am posting everything that has happened. Not all of this news is new as of today.
orca news:
10/28/03: Ku was moved from Taiji Whaling Museum to Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium along with a bottlenose dolphin that had been keeping Ku company.
10/24/03: The Russian orca captured in late September died today.
10/2003: Stella's female calf has been named Sara
9/26/03: A female orca was captured, "Friday September 26th, 2003, in Avacha Gulf, Kamchatka, Eastern Russia, by captors working for the Utrish Aquarium on the Black Sea." Taken from the WDCS news.
SWC dolphin news:
Toby, Purina, Steime and Dottie have all had calves this summer. Toby's calf is a female named Maguire. Purina's is a male named Charlie. Steime's is a female named Zana. Dottie's is a male named Nitro. You can view Maguire at the DIP pools and Charlie at the show pools. Zana and Nitro are in animal care and they will stay there until they are about 1 1/2 years old.
Madison moved from DIP to RPP this summer.
There are probably a lot of pregnancies at RPP at this time. Crunch has been doing his job ;)

6/5/03
dolphin news:
Purina's calf is officially a male and has been named Charlie, they were quick at naming him, and I don't like that name to much for a dolphin, but oh well he's cute.

Toby has had her baby. It was born Friday, May 30 at 10:17 P.M. They had a few baby presentations on Saturday but there were barricades set up at about the 10th row so you couldn't go down to see it up close. However, it was still great to see. It was also hard to get pictures because Toby spent all of her time in the back circle pool. I think the calf looks identical to Kenobi, it is so cute.

Steime and Dottie are still pregnant.

Orca news:
Stella at Kamogawa Sea World, Japan, gave birth to her third calf on May 31, 2003.

5/27/03
dolphin news:
I have seen the new baby, and it is so cute. I have taken some pics, please see site updates at the bottom of this page for the URL. Purina was in labor with the calf only for 50-55 minutes. The trainers say this is short for a first time mother. First time mothers usually are in labor longer. If you have not guessed already this is Purina's first calf. They think that the calf is a male but they will not be sure until the placenta is tested. Toby, Dottie and Steime are still pregnant. Dottie and Toby are due any day now so there should be two more calves within the next couple of weeks. Steime's is not due for a few more weeks.

5/20/03
dolphin news:
Purina had her calf. Purina is a show dolphin at SWC. The baby was born Sunday, May 18 2003 at 8:20 AM. It spent the first day in the show pool. All shows were cancelled on Sunday but there were 2 baby presentations Monday. Monday the pair was allowed in the back pools as well. I have not seen it yet so I have no pictures. I do not think that the gender has been determined yet.
orca news:
Sumar celebrated his 5th birthday on May 14, 2003

5/4/03
orca news:
Kohana had her first birthday on May 3, 2003.

Freya at Marineland Antibes, France, had another stillbirth on April 1, 2003. Her fourth.
SWC dolphin news:
In addition to Steime and Dottie being pregnant, Toby and Purina, over at the dolphin show, are also pregnant. They were artificially inseminated and are due sometime soon, between late May and early July.

Sharkey has started doing dip with a few smaller behaviors.

4/23/03
SWC dolphin news:
Crunch, who has spent more than a year in AC, is back out at RPP. He moved back on 4/22/03. Yay Crunch is back!

4/16/03
SWC dolphin news:
Sharkey is still doing well over at the stadium, she now passes through the gates without many problems, and I have seen her with every DIP dolphin at least once, so she has met everyone.

Steime and Dottie are in fact not going to be having their calves at RPP. They thought that it would be to difficult so both dolphins were moved to animal care and they will be having their calves in the back pools. They are together, and no one else is with them. They were moved out the morning of April 4th. So, the current number of dolphins at RPP is 10.

Also, Steime turned 13 on April 8th, Happy Birthday Steime!

Madison is back at DIP, she was at the show for a little while, performing with the baby boys. Recently they have been moving the dolphins around a lot over at the stadium, every weekend they seem to be at a different place.

3/21/03
Orca news:
There is not much lately. There are now SWT photos up on shamu.com I thought that was cool because I've always wanted them to have a soak central for SWT because I have never been there.
SWC dolphin news:
Steime and Dottie are still pregnant and due in May, they will probably be having their babies at RPP, so RPP will be closed a few days after they have the baby. This is last I heard, they can be changing plans at any time.

Toby and Madison have both moved from DIP to the show.

Sandy is now in DIP.

Sharkey's is getting along great at DIP.

2/26/03

7/17/06:
I added 4 pictures of Beaker. They start in row one on her page (4th-7th picture on the page). I had these 4 thumbnails up before but never had them go to the larger picture. I finally found the original pictures on my computer (after many times looking) so they are now back up.

6/5/06:
I have updated pretty much my whole website, and will continue to do so. I haven't updated in so long everything was out of date. Everything should now be accurate. Or it will be in a week or two when I am completely updated. All of the pictures I own are up and on this website now, including my most recent pics, and those of the newest bottlenose dolphin arrivals- Kaloje, Cascade and Captain.

12/9/05:
I have updated the dolphin page. I now put all of the dolphin bios on separate pages. I have updated the rest of the site a lot, have a look around.

10/16/05:
I have updated the dolphin page. Every dolphin except the two navy females has a picture. Also I fixed some of the birth dates that were incorrect. They all should be correct now.

8/16/05
I have updated my picture section. It should be easier to navigate, and it should have a shorter loading time because I have switched some of the long pages of pictures to mulitple pages. Also I have added all pictures, including newer ones to their right pages.
I will be adding a pilot whale and beluga section soon, probably within the next week.

5/12/05
I have updated the SWC dolphin section. It has birthdate/capture dates and transfer dates as I know them. Also you can navigate to the dolphin page from any other page. Before it would have taken you to the wrong page.

4/7/05
Look throughout my website. There are MANY updates since I haven't updated in a very long time.

8/12/04
It's been a long time since I updated. I have redone my homepage. I moved all the dolphin bios to one page. I put all orca pictures and dolphin picutres on separate pages for each animal. This will help in loading time.

2/17/04
I am sorry it has been so long since I've updated my site. I will try to do it more often. I am in the process of adding all of my dolphin pics (at least the digital cam ones) on my pages. I have finished the rocky point preserve picture page, you can view it here, or by visiting the RPP page, or the Mypics page. I will be adding more dolphin pics throughout the next few weeks.
I have also added some new pics from a more recent visit on Jan 31. 2004. You can view them here

12/19/03
I have added a Keiko page, you can visit it by clicking here (there is also a link from the homepage)

12/17/03
I have added new pics from my visit to SWC on 12/5/03. Click here to see them.
I have fixed the "links" page. Before all links lead to an error page, it is now fixed and each link leads to the intended page.
I will be making a tribute page for Keiko soon. I'll post when it's up.

12/2/03
I have finished Bjossa's bio and her picture page. You can view it by clicking here. To access it from the main page, go under "deceased orcas." At the bottom of the SWC list, You can click on Bjossa's name.
I didn't notice that the "SWF and SWT orcas" button on the home page was linked to the wrong page. I have fixed it, and it is now clickable.

12/1/03
I have finished all of the orca bios, and all of the pictures for the orcas are up.
I have finished all dolphin bios, including those under "in memory of."
I have finished the page on deceased orcas at Sea World.
I have new pictures up from my trip on 11/23/03 click here for those. There is also a link on the "my Sea World pictures" page.
I have added an "about me" page, a "favorite link" page, and a "my favorite cetacean interactions" page. You can view all of those pages from the home page.

Because this site is new, there will be many updates for a while. I am in the process of finishing the orca bios. I have up to Sumar done. I only need to do Nakai and Kohana. I have finished the dolphin information, next for dolphins will be pictures. I have added my trainer for a day story. I do not have my pictures from tfad on my computer and my scanner is not plugged into my computer so I will not be able to post them for another few months. Just check back because there will be plenty of updates.
