Name: Scarback
Species: Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin
Gender: Female
Captured: 10/25/1975
Calves: Scarlet (DC), Melanie and Pacino
Grandchildren: Griffith (F, SWF), Madison (SWF)
Nicknames: SB (I call her this more than I do Scarback), Back
She is a protective mother and keeps a watchful eye on her calves, but will allow her calves to interact as long as she thinks they are in good hands. If she thinks anything is wrong she will come over and snatch her calf away. I have
not had her do this to me personally but I have observed her doing it with other people around me. Her favorite hang out buddy is Crunch.
It is rare to see one without the other.
When they are separated (Crunch will usually be mating), SB usually sleeps by the rock in the middle of the shallow side of RPP.
She is probably the least interactive dolphin in the pool, but she will still come up. I haven't gone a day without having at least one interaction with her. Most recently her interactions have been many, long, and sweet.
Physical description: She is a medium size female. She used to be a lot larger but she slimmed down. She is lighter in color than most females at RPP and her skin has a funny color to it. She has 2 deep scars on the right side of her back close to her dorsal fin area, hence the name Scarback. Her teeth are yellow, but she still has some.
Dolphin you may be most likely to confuse her with: Stein, from a distance they look a lot a like. He has the same funny color to his skin as SB. Maybe it's from old age?
