Park guests were able to vote for his name, the names to vote from were
Inizio- Italian for new beginning
Makai- Hawaiian for seaward or toward the sea
Shgen-doo- meaning high class but humble
T.K.- abbreviation for father Tilikum and mother Kasatka
and of course Nakai which means Victory in Native American.
Nakai was the first killer whale to be conceived through artificial insemination. He was born headfirst, only Kalina has been born that way before, in the show pool of SWC at 8:50 p.m.
Since birth, he has been an independent calf, swimming away from his mother frequently to play with other orcas or park guests.
Kohana, Sumar and Takara are his favorite orcas besides his mother. Nakai can be seen often playing with the public in Shamu close up. He is playful little calf with an active personality.
Nakai is the second smallest orca in the pool, but he is growing rapidly.
You can ID him easily because he is the second smallest orca in the pool. He is a very pudgy little orca as well. His dorsal fin leans slightly to the right.
