It is always really sad when a dolphin dies. It seems to happen way to often. This page is dedicated to 3 little dolphins, all different species, but all wonderful and all will be remembered. May they forever swim free.

Nancy died on September 10, 2002. She was a female Pacific White-sided dolphin (lag), and for a long time she was the only one at SWC. About 10-15 years ago when all of the lags were transported to SWT Nancy stayed behind. They thought she was too old and would die soon anyways, she proved them wrong by living a "little" longer than everyone expected. She died old, in her mid to late 30's maybe, a pretty good age for a lag in captivity. She spent the last half of her life back in Animal Care, where she shared pools with bottlenose dolphins. She seemed to get along great with them. Earlier in her life, she had been in the petting pool. She was a good aunty dolphin for mothers with new calves. She loved the babies. She was the easiest to recognize lol, because well, she looked like no one else. I had the pleasure of meeting her 4 times this past year, and each time was a wonderful memory. She was so sweet, she would lie there quietly just letting me rub her. The first time I saw her jump I was amazed, she could go so high, just like any lag, but it was so beautiful. The last time I saw her was May 25, 2002, and it was my favorite memory of her. I had gone back to AC because Steime was sick and I went to see her. I ended up spending all of my time with Nancy. Today I am happy for that. Nancy swept by probably 30 times while I rubbed her back. And every few minutes she would stop and rest her head on the side, just letting me stroke her little head, and looking into her small little eyes. Rest in peace Nancy, you will be missed.

Penny's second calf was born on September 3, 2002 and she died on October 19, 2002 . The calf was a female Atlantic bottlenose dolphin. She was the daughter of Crunch and Penny. She did not have a name but I got in the habit of calling her Henny, stupid but it rhymed with Penny. I had been calling her that, hoping for a girl, while Penny was pregnant at RPP. The little calf died at just a little over a month old. I was looking forward to Penny and her calf coming back to RPP. Copper is such a wonderful, fun dolphin, and I was sure "Henny" would be the same way. I was very saddened to find out that the poor little calf died. Rest in peace little baby.

Bella died in the summer of 2002. She was a young common dolphin captured on May 1, 1999. She was a stranding. She arrived at SWC April 7, 2001. She was not used for DIP for a few months after arrival, but she eventually was. She really loved her trainers and the attention she got. She was a big people dolphin. She was also a really sweet dolphin, always trying to please. I never got the chance to meet her, but I saw her up close during tfad. She was so cute with her pouting lips, and her beautiful markings. She is missed by all who knew her. Rest in peace little Bella.
