Shamu 51 female Oct. 1965 Washington, where she was a member of J, K or L pod no calves Shamu was Sea World's first orca. The name "Shamu" is now the stage name for all of SW's orcas. Everyone who hears her name automatically thinks "Sea World." During the shows at all of the orcas names are Shamu, but in reality there is and only ever was one Shamu. She was caught to be a companion for Namu, the first killer whale to successfully live in captivity. She was named Shamu, which means "Friend of Namu", or a contraction of She Namu. After capture she was sent to Seattle Aquarium but was quickly sold and transferred to SWC by Dec. 1965 Aug. 23, 1971 SWC 5 yrs 10 months

Kilroy 72 male Aug. 1966 Washington, where he was a member K pod no calves He was captured with 4 other orcas, Ramu (M), Kandu (F), Katy(F) and Skana(F). These 5 whales were selected out of 16 that were caught. During capture 3 whales died, the rest were released. Kilroy moved to SWC from Seattle with Ramu and a little over a year later Kandu moved to SWC. Katy died at the Seattle Aquarium only 3 months after capture. Skana was transferred to the Vancouver Aquarium and later died in Oct. 1980. After capture he was taken to the Seattle Aquarium. He was transferred to Sea World in March 1967 Sep. 23, 1978 SWC 11 yrs 6 months

Orky II SWC-00-7706 male May 1968 British Columbia, Canada where he was probably a member of A5 pod. fathered:
Corky II's 4 live births, 2 miscarriages and 1 stillbirth (none living)
Orkid (swc, mother Kandu V)
Kayla (swt, mother Kenau) (both living)
While he and Corky II were at Marineland, they had 7 calves together. Unfortunately, they were all unsuccessful and none are alive today, the longest lived a little over a month. However, when Orky got to Sea World he did father 2 more calves and both are living today. Orky died on September 26, 1988, 3 days after his oldest daughter, Orkid was born. They named Orkid after Orky, "Orky's Kid". After he was captured, he was taken to Marineland of the Pacific in CA where he lived along with Corky II (SWC) until Sea World bought the marine park and closed it down in January 1987. The 2 orcas were then sent to SWC. September 26, 1988 SWC 20 yrs
Kandu V SWC-00-7706 female Oct. 1977 Iceland calves: Orkid (swc, father Orky II)
pregnancies: stillbirth (Jan. 31, 1986, father Winston)
Kandu V was the dominant female at Sea World CA. One day during a show, Kandu rammed Corky II. She ended up bleeding through her blowhole, 45 minutes non-stop until she finally died. The ram happened in C pool (the pool closest to close up) and she then swam into the show pool bleeding where the people in the stadium watched in horror. The trainers signaled her to go to B pool where she eventually died. When Kandu died, she left her only daughter, Orkid, an 11-month-old orphan. After her capture she was sent to Harderwijk, Holland until she was transferred to Sea World in Dec. 1977. Aug. 21, 1989 SWC 12 yrs
Knootka, also known as T5 SWC-00-8628 female March 1970 British Columbia, Canada no calves She is known for being captured with the famous albino orca, Chimo. She is also one of the few Transient orcas to be held in captivity. After capture, she and Chimo were taken to Sealand of the Pacific, Canada. After spending a short period of time there she then was moved around to 4 other facilities: The Japanese Deer Park, CA, Seven Seas, Texas, Marineland, Canada and finally in 1986 to Sea World CA. Chimo died at Sealand in Nov. 1972 only after 2 years in captivity. March 13, 1990 SWC 20 yrs

Kahana SWF-OO-7803 female Oct 1978 Iceland no calves. She had a miscarriage, 11/6/1990, during her 8th month of pregnancy. Kotar impregnated her in Texas 03/1990. She was captured with Kasatka (SWC), Katina (SWF), Kotar (deceased) and a no name orca (deceased, lived 11 months in captivity) After capture she was taken to Sea World May 15, 1991 SWT 12 yrs and 7 months
Samoa SWO-OO-8951 female Nov. 1983 Iceland no calves. Kotar impregnated her in Texas in 1/1991. She died in labor of a near-full term fetus. Samoa spent most of her captive life in Brazil. She also lived at SWO. She was only at SWT from 10/13/1990 until her death. After capture she was taken to Acurama, Brazil until 5/1989 when she was taken to Sea World. March 14, 1992 SWT 8 yrs and 4 months
Kotar SWC-OO-7801 male Oct. 1978 Iceland Kotar has three living offspring. Takara who lives in SWC, mother is Kasatka. Kasatka was impregnated at SWT and was transferred to SWC where she had Takara. Keet (SWC, mother Kalina), and Keto (SWT, mother Kalina). Kalina now lives at SWF. He also got three other whales pregnant (Kahana, Kenau and Samoa) all were unsuccessful. He was captured with Kasatka (SWC), Katina (SWF), Kahana (deceased), and a no name orca (deceased, lived 11 months in captivity). While Kotar was at SWC, he was not only in the show but he spent some time in the petting pool. After capture, he was taken to SWC. He eventually moved to SWF before finally moving to SWT. April 1, 1995 SWT 15 yrs and 5 months
Katerina SWF-OO-8801 female Nov. 4, 1998 SWF mother: Katina (SWF), father: Kanduke (deceased), half-siblings by same mother: Kalina (SWF), Taku (SWF), Unna (SWT), Ikaika (SWF), half-sibling by same father: Taima (SWF) - She was born at SWF, and then was transferred to SWO (now SFWoA) in Feb. 1991. She was transferred from SWO to SWT 10/1994, where she stayed until her death. May 5, 1999 SWT 10.5 yrs
Haida II SWT-OO-9376 female Oct. 1982 Iceland one male calf, Kyuquot, born on 12/24/1991, father Tilikum, one female calf, no name, born on 11/20/1994, father Kotar. The female calf died 38 days later on 12/28/1994. At Sealand Tilikum (SWF) and Nootka IV (deceased) lived with Haida. While they were there, there was an accidental drowning of a trainer by these three orcas. The orcas were not trained to swim with their trainers and when a female trainer fell in, the orcas pulled her around the tank a little bit until they finally took her to the bottom of the tank where she ran out of breath and drowned. Kyuquot was born at Sealand to Tilikum and Haida. Haida had a special bond with her son even as he grew. Ky spent his whole life with his mother up until the day she died. While Haida was alive, she was the dominant female at SWT. After capture she was taken to Sealand in Canada until she was moved to Sea World in Jan. 1993. Aug. 1, 2001 SWT 19 yrs
Winnie SWF-OO-9101 female Oct. 1977 Iceland no calves/pregnancies Winnie was famous for her complete flip above water. While Haida II was alive, Winnie and her got along well, and very submissive Winnie became the sub-dominant female. Haida II, a very dominant whale, was the dominant female at SWT. Windsor Safari Park, UK until her transfer in 10/1991 to SWF. She then was transferred to SWO in 10/1994 where she stayed until her final transfer in 10/1999 to SWT. April 11, 2002 SWT 24.5 yrs

Ramu SWF-OO-13 male Feb. 1967 Washington, where he was a member of K pod. no calves/pregnancies He was captured with four other orcas, Kilroy (M), Kandu (F), Katy (F) and Skana (F). These five whales were selected out of 16 that were caught. During capture 3 whales died, the rest were released. Ramu moved to SWC from Seattle with Kilroy and a little over a year later Kandu moved to SWC. Katy died at the Seattle Aquarium only 3 months after capture. Skana was transferred to the Vancouver Aquarium and later died in Oct. 1980. He stayed at the Seattle Aquarium after capture and until 03/67 when he was transferred to SWC. When SWF opened in 1970, Ramu was sent there. Jan. 12, 1982 SWF 15 yrs
Kona II SWF-OO-7701 female Oct. 1977 Iceland no calves/pregnancies She was pregnant when she died. A fetus was found at the necropsy. Harderwijk, Holland until 12/1977 when she was moved to Sea World Florida. Oct. 15, 1987 SWF 10 yrs
Kanduke SWF-OO-8701 male Aug. 1975 British Columbia, Canada He got whales pregnant during is life at SW. Kona II (deceased), whose calf was only found as a fetus after Kona's death, Katina (SWF), who had Katerina (deceased). Katerina live 10.5 yrs before she died at SWT. Taima (SWF) born to Gudrun (deceased) is his only living offspring. Taima herself has had two calves, Sumar (SWC) and Tekoa (SWF), which are Kanduke's grandchildren. Kanduke's wild family is still a pod as well. He is one of the few transients that have been held in captivity. As a wild whale he was numbered T9. After capture, he was taken to Marineland, Canada where he spent most of his life. In 1/1987, he was then transferred to Sea World Florida where he stayed until he death. Sep. 20, 1990 SWF 15 yrs
Kenau SWC-OO-7602 female Oct. 1976 Iceland While in captivity she got pregnant three times. First, she had a female calf on 1/5/1986, which only lived 11 days. She died 1/16/1986. The father was Winston and the calf was born at SWC. Her second calf Kayla (SWT) was born 11/26/88 and she is still living. Kayla was born in Texas but Kenau mated with Orky II while in CA. Orky II is Kayla's sire. Kenau also mated with Kotar while in Texas but after her move to SWF, she died in her 12th month of pregnancy. The calf would have been a male. Kenau was captured with Gudrun (deceased). After capture, she was taken to Harderwijk, Holland where she stayed until 5/1977. She was then taken to SWC. She spent most of her life performing at SWC, but she was moved around to Ohio and Texas as well. In 2/1988, she moved to SWT until 1/1991. She then moved to SWF where she stayed until her death. Aug. 6, 1991 SWF 14 yrs and 10 months
Nootka IV SWF-OO-9301 female Oct. 1982 Iceland no calves. She had one stillbirth at SWF 8/18/1994 , the father was Tilikum. She also had a calf with Tilikum at Sealand of the Pacific on 2/4/1992, but the male calf died 3/9/1992. - After capture she was taken to Sealand, Canada where she stayed with two (later 3 when Kyuquot (SWT) was born to Haida II) other orcas, Haida II (deceased) and Tilikum (SWF). She stayed there until 1/1993 when she was transferred to SWF, where she met up with Tilikum. She stayed in SWF until her death. Sep. 13, 1994 SWF 12 yrs
Gudrun SWF-OO-8702 female Oct. 1976 Iceland Gudrun got pregnant 3 times while in captivity. One, Taima (SWF), born 7/11/1989 and fathered by Kanduke (deceased) is still living. Her second calf, Nyar, born 12/31/1993 and fathered by Tilikum died on 4/1/1996. The 3rd pregnancy, fathered by Tilikum, ended in a stillbirth on 2/21/1996, only 4 days before Gudrun died herself. Gudrun was captured with Kenau (deceased). While she was in Holland her only companions were Bottlenose dolphins. After capture, she was taken to Harderwijk, Holland along with Kenau. Unlike Kenau who was out of the Dolphinarium within 6 months of capture, Gudrun spent the next 11 years there. She was transferred to SWF 11/17/1987 where she stayed until her death. Feb. 25, 1996 SWF 19 yrs and 5 months
Nyar SWF-OO-9303 female Dec. 31, 1993 SWF mother: Gudrun, father: Tilikum. She has many half brothers and sisters fathered by Tilikum. Gudrun's other daughter, Taima, is her only half sister from her mother's side of the family. During her short life, she had several illnesses. She died less than a month after her mother died. She was born at SWF. Nyar developed physical abnormalities and health problems at an early age. She had been separated from the other whales , and was periodically separated from her mother since the age of five months. April 1, 1996 SWF 2 yrs and 3 months
