Daphne is an interactive dolphin. She will come up most of the time, but she would rather be squirted than rubbed. She has moments when she wants to be just rubbed. She gets along great with her trainers.
She gets along well with most of the other dolphins. I have seen Dottie get mad at her a few times. Since they were born her buddy was always Copper, and she was either always with Copper, with her mother, or alone. When Copper moved to Florida Daphne had a period where she was a complete loner, just swimming around the pool all by herself. Her and Steime used to be really close. Then their closeness seemed to disappear. Then Zana came into the picture. When the three were together at RPP, Steime, Zana and Daphne could be seen swimming together a lot of the time. Daphne took very good care of her baby sister. When Zana wasn't with mom, she was most likely with Daphne. Daphne moved to DIP in early 2005. She has started doing DIP more frequently, and she quickly became one of the most used dolphins for the program.
She spent the last year in animal care because she recently had her first calf. A female, Osa, born in May 2006. Sadly, Osa passed away on January 31, 2007. Daphne is now back in DIP. Daphne, along with Copper and Kenobi, was the first group of calves that I got to know at RPP. Daphne having her own calf was very special. She is the first dolphin I got to see grow up and have a calf of her own. I am really proud of her. Steime's wonderful family just keeps growing. I new addition to her family is always special. I bet this new little girl looks just like the rest of them.
Physical description: Daphne is light gray, and is all one color, except for her belly and back, but that is just the countershading. She has a large rake mark on the right side of her head, and a small indent on the right side of her head by her blowhole. Her rostrum is an orange like color on the tip. She has a nick in her fluke as well. Iding Daphne will become a lot less difficult since both Corona and Copper have left.
Dolphin you may be most likely to confuse her with: Steime, but she is a lot lighter and of course smaller. Also, now that Zana is older she looks almost identical to Daphne.
