Chobits

Hideki grew up on a farm and just graduated high school. His next goal is to attend a big university in Tokyo. Unfortunately, his grades aren't high enough yet and has to go to a prep school first. He moves to Tokyo and begins doing all that is necessary to get ready for college. On his first day he notices that androids, called persocons are popular in the city. They look like people, can do most everything a person can do and can serve as a personal computer. Hideki would really like one but they are too much for a struggling college student to afford. On his way home to his new apartment, Hideki notices a persocon laying in a trash pile. He figures there must be something wrong with it but takes it home anyway. He gets it running but it doesn't seem to work right. With a little help from his new neighbor Shinbo, they figure out that the persocon doesn't have an operating system installed. It shouldn't work at all, yet somehow does. Doesn't know anything but has a learning ability. Hideki names the persocon Chii. Hideki begins teaching her the basics, like how to talk and so forth. All the while, Hideki is learning more about Chii and how she is different than other persocons. Even though Chii is a machine, she has a personality that seems almost human and Hideki finds himself getting more and more attached to her.
