Air Master
Genre : Action / Fighting / Drama
/ Comedy
Aikawa Maki is an easy going, taller
than average freshman who just transferred to a new high school. She walks
into an arcade and sees a little girl crying. Renge, a high school freshman
who could easily be mistaken for an elementary school kid, is having some
trouble with one of the machines. Maki offers her help. Renge then introduces
her to her classmate friends. Yu, Michiru, and Mina. The new friends are
walking home, getting aquainted, when they are accosted by two guys who
make some crude remarks about Mina's abundant charms. Maki then shows another
side to herself as she leaps into the air and drops one of the guys with
one attack. The other is taken care of quickly by a pro wrestling kind
of masked man who happens by. He recognizes Maki as the undefeated street
fighter nicknamed Air Master that specializes in mid air fighting. He then
announces that aerial battles are also his specialty and issues a challenge.
They square off and a high flying battle begins that leaves onlookers in
awe.

Review
A surprisingly good anime. I was
only mildly interested in the beginning of the series but when the Fukamichi
rankings started, I really started to like it. Drawn okay for a series
but it gets better when it counts. Likable characters and character designs.
Great opening and ending themes. Very good background music that livens
the story and drives the action. Entertaining but has some parts that I
found to be uncomfortable or a little bizarre. Has lots of well done action
as Maki's reputation draws fights from 1 or 2 specialized fighters per
episode. Has a fair amount of humor provided mostly by Renge's childlike
antics, Kaori's super model/street fighter mentality, and Mina's friendliness
to Maki. Has a fair amount of fan service mostly provided by Maki fighting
battles in short skirts and Mina's endowments. Has some drama as Maki's
past, personality, and why she fights is explored. There may also be a
series plot in there but I might have missed it. A little Grappler Baki
with some Ultimate Muscle and Kurumi the Second thrown in. Over all, inexplicably
very good.
