Great Teacher Onizuka
Written by : Tohru Fujisawa Genre : Drama / Comedy Eikichi Onizuka was a guy who was usually in and out of trouble. He dropped out of high school but managed to find a college with an entrance exam he could pass and majored in auto mechanics. The great job he thought was waiting for all college graduates didn't appear. The job he had got was just getting him by. He was uncertain about his future till he met a girl that was still in high school that seemed to like him. His hopes were dashed when he found out she was just passing time with him till her boyfriend took her back. Her 'boyfriend' turned out to be a 40 year old teacher. He then decided he wanted to be a teacher too. His dyed hair and his attitude didn't go over well at job interviews but he still managed to get hired as a substitute. His first assignment was a class that nobody else wanted. One with all the schools delinquents. The class 'ring' leaders tried getting Onizuka fired by setting up circumstances that would prey on his weakness for women and make him look very unprofessional. But they underestimated Onizuka's past and they got bullied instead. Their changed behavior got Onizuka a good reference. On his first job as a real teacher Onizuka met Fuyutsuki. Her good influence on him began to set him on track to becoming a great teacher. The above is from the 1st few chapters of the manga and in the episodes I saw, Onizuka had been set up again. He found a sizable amount of money in his jacket pocket and he went partying with girls all to willing to help him spend it all. The next day, photos of his escapades are posted on the school bulletin board and his job is in jeopardy again. To make matters worse, the money was lost by one of his students who was in charge of holding the money for their class trip to Okinawa and gets blamed for stealing it. |

After watching a few of the later episodes I would say the anime pretty well captures the manga. Some drama, some action, some intrigue, some fan service, and pretty funny sometimes as Onizuka manages to extract himself from mostly self inflicted trouble. |
