Ayashi no Ceres

Written by :
Watase Yu
Genre : Drama / Supernatural / Romance
Long, long ago, a man came upon a feathered cloak in the forest. This cloak belonged to a fairy who was bathing nearby. The man hid the cloak so the fairy could not return to the heavens. He then forced the fairy to become his wife and bear his children. In present time, Aya and Aki Mikage are twin brother and sister. Normal as far as any could tell, until their 16th birthday was approaching. Aya got her fortune told for kicks and the fortune teller told her an elaborate and dangerous fortune. Later she, Aki, and their friends are walking around town when a woman has her purse snatched. Aya rushes to catch the thief and in trying to retrieve the woman's purse, Aya falls from the bridge they were on. The height that she fell from should have killed her but she somehow lands softly. So surprised that she was still alive, Aya didn't notice the car that was coming right at her. She luckily gets pulled out of the way by a stranger. When their birthday arrives, Aya and Aki are told by their father to attend a party by their grandfather. The atmosphere of the gathering isn't like a party at all, everyone looks deadly serious. A box with a mummified hand is brought before the two and explodes in front of Aki, wounding him badly. Then the grandfather orders Aya's father to kill her. In the chaos of a super natural event, Aya escapes and is later aided by the man who saved her from the car earlier. Aya later learns that all these horrible things that just happened have to do with the old fairy tale about the fairy forced to marry. The story is true and the descendants of the fairy are sometimes born with super natural abilities. Unknown to Aya and Aki their family, the Mikage family, has been hunting these people and destroying them for generations. Aya finds she carries more than just the blood of the fairy. Inside Aya is the incarnation of the ancient fairy, Ceres. Ceres wants retribution for the wrong done to her so long ago and is directing it at Aki and the Mikage. Also, Touya, the man who twice saved her and she has feelings for, works for the Mikage.
Review
Ayashi no Ceres is an engaging and very well done story with a complex plot, interesting characters, and good character interaction with a little humor to lighten things up now and again. Good character designs and nicely drawn. Contains some nudity. Over all well done and worth watching.
