Berserk
Creator : Kentaro Mitsura Genre : Sword-Sorcery / Action PG-17+ Episode 1 : In a medieval bar, a waitress is being abused when a brooding warrior, dressed in black, wielding a rapid fire crossbow and a huge sword intervenes. Leaving one of the thugs alive, he tells him to inform his master that the black swordsman is back. When the master hears the news, he sets out with his soldiers to ransack the village and look for the swordsman. Gatts attacks the master in the flaming village and is not surprised when he turns into a snake demon. A vicious battle ensues that shows Gatts is no ordinary fighter, taking damage no human could survive. After the battle, Gatts thinks back to his past muttering the name Griffith. Episode 2 : A younger Gatts defeats a particularly strong warrior and collects a sizable bounty. As Gatts is traveling away from the city, he is attacked by mercenaries that had seen him collect his bounty. He easily dispatches them. Griffith, the leader of the Band of the Hawks, orders Caska, who is second only to him in skill, to attack next. She puts up a fight but is soon overwhelmed by Gatts strength and berserk fighting style. As Caska is about to be killed, Griffith attacks and surprises Gatts with his speed and wounds him near fatally. When Gatts wakes up some days later in the mercenary camp, Griffith announces that he likes Gatts and wants him to join his band. Gatts refuses and the two square off. |

Gripping medeival-esque action with the kind of blood and violence usually reserved for movies. Episode 1 introduces Gatts in the present and episode 2 begins telling Gatts story as a much younger man. Both hint at an involving story about a man branded and claimed by demons, who killed his former sword master, and is hell bent on vengeance for something. |
