Friday, June 9, 2000 CHINA Seven herdsmen in China were killed by a single lightening bolt, as they tended their cattle in the southwestern province of Guizhou. The Xinhua news agency reported that three other herders had also sustained serious injuries. The youngest of the victims was an 8-year-old boy, herding livestock in Hezhang County, when the storm struck. The region is noted for thunderstorms that produce lightening and hail, which strike without warning during the summer months.
