His Story

Oscar was likely born in the year 1985. He was collected in October 1987 off the east coast of Iceland near Seydisfjördur. On March 29, 1988, Oscar was sent to Kamogawa Sea World in Japan.

Kamogawa Sea World had worked on establishing a breeding program with their orcas in the 1990s. Two of their whales, Stella and Bingo, would become parents on January 11, 1998 to Lovey, the first orca successfully born and raised in a zoological park in Japan. Stella would give birth to three more daughters by Bingo, Lara (February 8, 2001), Sarah* (May 31, 2003 - April 26, 2006), and Ran (February 25, 2006).

Oscar finally became a father himself on October 13, 2008 when a son mothered by Lovey was born.
