Kayla
(KAY-la) means "crown of laurels" in Hebrew.

Her Story
Kayla was born tail-first on November 26, 1988 at 12:10 PM CST. Her mother Kenau* had gone into labor that morning. Another female named Kasatka was by her side during the birth. Kayla became the first orca born at SeaWorld San Antonio.
In April 1991, Kayla was sent to SeaWorld Aurora to join another young female named Katerina* who was born just three weeks before her. In the fall of 1994, Kayla was joined by an older female named Winnie*. The two remained at the park until they were both moved to SeaWorld San Antonio in 1999.
In the spring of 2004, a male named Keet was moved to SeaWorld San Antonio and paired with Kayla. On October 9, 2005, Kayla gave birth to her first calf, a baby girl named Halyn*. For reasons unknown, she rejected Halyn, leaving trainers and animal care staff to raise her.
Just before turning 18-years-old, Kayla was moved to SeaWorld Orlando where she joined other adult females and their calves. Perhaps by being placed with experienced mothers, Kayla would learn how to take care of any more offspring.
