*Orca's Summary
Taima is the only captive orca to date to have been born during a thunderstorm. Therefore, her name means thunder in Native American. She was born July 11th, 1989 to mother Gudrun* and father Kanduke*. Since her birth, she's lived at Sea World Florida. Most of her family, sadly, is dead. This includes her parents and half sisters Nyar* and Katerina*. On May 14th, 1998 she bore her first calf, fathered by Tilikum. The baby, a male, was named Sumar. She wasn't a very good mother and often attacked Sumar several times after he was born. This is probably because of her young age or her mother's influence. Four years after Taima was born, Gudrun gave birth to Nyar. Unfortunately, Nyar was physically and mentally sick. Gudrun would often attack Nyar, trying to put her out of her misery. Taima witnessed these attacks, which possibly affected her as a mother. After Sumar was sent to Sea World California, Taima was not allowed near Tilikum for some time. But after she proved to be a good aunt to Kalina's third calf, Tuar, trainers allowed her a chance to breed again. Her second son, Tekoa, was born on November 8th, 2000. But some months after he was born Taima began harassing him just as she had Sumar. The two were kept seperated but saw each other on occassion, with trainer supervision. Tekoa is now in San Antonio, Texas. Taima is only allowed to stay with Tilikum for now, and she has been put on birth control. If she were allowed with all the other whales, she would be the matriarch, due to her forceful nature. Taima once did waterwork, but it was stopped after Tekoa was born. Now trainers are slowly trying to re-introduce her to it. At 18 feet long and 6,020 pounds, Taima is the largest female at SWF. Her dorsal fin leans slightly to the left and is more pointed, like her mother's was. She has two nothces in her left fluke, and her eyepatches are long; the right one has a point near her eye and both dip in the middle. Her mouthchips are rounded. She has two notches missing from her left fluke. With her baby blue eyes, Taima is an absolutely gorgeous female.
