The puppies are now completely weaned off the Mother's milk. Matza won't allow them to feed from her anymore. I'm sure those sharp little teeth may have something to do with it. They eagerly await food and drink from me which I've been providing three times daily. They run around in circles and make it difficult for me to set down the plate of milk and food. They taste the soft food but much prefer the hard stuff.

Momma usually finishes off the leftovers when the puppies lose interest in their food, which encourages them to eat the rest of their dinner by her example. I make sure they get enough to eat by hand feeding them pieces of hard food one at a time. They seem to enjoy all the attention from me as well as getting treats to crunch up and chew on.

Play time has become more serious now. They play and learn to defend themselves at the same time. The puppies are testing their limits, tearing and ripping up everything the can get their teeth on. They chase each other around, jumping and tackling one another. Their barks and growls cause Momma to come running when it sounds too vicious and she thinks there might be danger.

Hey! This is my cardboard, dude!
Fight Club
The alpha male asserts his authority against challengers
My, what sharp tiny teeth you have!
Every cute puppy has a dark side!

Here two males are pouncing on the alpha male, challenging his authority. The alpha male is very scary, growling, barking and snapping back at them. The two puppies on their hind legs about to jump him are particularly interesting. They are the same length but one appears longer than the other. This is a perfect example of what I call their "cobra necks." The far left puppy is just beginning to jump. His neck is tucked in and he appears to be smaller length wise. The male next to him is just about to launch himself. His neck is fully extended and his ears are thrown straight up, making him seem much larger. The puppies will learn to use this "cobra" technique to their advantage. You'll think you're safe then their neck suddenly springs forward and you'll find your nose being bitten or their tongue in your mouth. While it does look frightening, the puppies end up only knocking each other over then they will just continue to play.
