Smile for the camera

Max was the largest puppy from the first litter between Bisket and Matza, born January 3, 2001, in Woodland Hills, California. Max stood taller than his mom because he had inherited his dad's long legs. However, the long solid torso he got from his mom didn't have as wide a girth since his father is so thin. Even with his hearty appetite he usually maintained a weight less than the moms, fluctuating between ten to fourteen pounds. Max's coloring had the same silvery shimmer as his father's. His coat was very fluffy like his dad's, yet it wasn't nearly as curly.

Max left home for his new life at the same time as the rest of the first litter. Six months later, his new family had to relocate. Pets weren't allowed so Max ended up coming back home for a visit. Well, Matza and Bisket seemed much happier with him around. Max instinctively knew just how to behave to melt all our hearts. He stayed here with our family every since.

Max returns home at nine months
My...what big floppy ears you have! Happy and proud, Max strikes a pose Full of vigor and on the move C'mon, gimme a kiss!

Nearly Two Years Old
Let me introduce myself My name is Max Glad to meet ya!

Excuse me please

Max didn't want to do anything that might upset you. He was cautious and submissive, yet, joyous and exuberant. His enthusiasm could be infectious. Max's single most goal in life was to make sure that you loved him.

It didn't matter if you yelled at Max. If Matza snapped at him or if Bisket ignored him, it didn't matter. Max would come right back at you with his tailing wagging agreeably. He wanted everyone to be just like himself, perpetually happy.

It's my turn for some lovin'

I'm comin' for ya!

Max was also a real trickster. He had a cobra neck that would strike like a snake. Max kept his head tucked in and pulled back. He'd turn his head and face away while his eyeballs stayed trained steadfast onto you. He would bait you to move in just ever so close for his affection, giving you a false feeling of security. You'd think you were a safe distance away. Then suddenly he'd spring at you. Before you knew it his tongue would be frenching your mouth or burrowing up inside your nostril! Ew! It'd be disgusting but somehow, funny and utterly adorable.

Three Years and Eight Months
I'm quite comfortable upside down, thank you Life is good Call me when dinner is ready, OK?
Just look at how comfortable and relaxed this guy is.

In Memoriam

Deceased, Sunday, December 4, 2005

One day we were late getting home and realized the doggy door had been left open. That was the sad day that are hearts were broken. Max wasn't waiting at the front door to greet us with his usual enthusiasm. His tail would have been wagging away while he jumped about, celebrating now that we had gotten home. Along with Bisket and Matza, his excitement couldn't have been contained.

The commotion our neighbors heard confirmed our worst fears. Maxie was gone. Coyotes had ambushed Max while he was outside doing his business in the backyard.

We never found conclusive evidence to explain the disappearance of Max. If theives were involved, we can only hope that Max's new family is taking better steps than we did to ensure his health and safety. Weekly inquiries with the area animal shelters have not turned up any clues as to Max's where abouts. All we know for sure is that there's a gaping void in our lives where Maxie use to be.
