Eyes Wide Open The puppies didn't have any difficulty finding their momma's milk when they first opened their eyes after two weeks. Of course, their legs weren't quite working well enough to help much though. About all they were capable of doing was crawling. The squeaks and growls sounded more like pigeons cooing than dog barking. Each time after cleaning and feeding her brood Matza became more comfortable leaving the puppies on their own. While guarding the litter, she'd stand outside the pool watching the puppies as they interact. Eating, sleeping and cuddling together were still their main activities at this point.
Week Three
By the third week they were pretty well able to sit up but their ability to walk was closer to resembling a drunken stumble. Their hind legs kept dropping out behind them when they tried to stand on all fours. They spent the time tumbling about and exploring the new world around them, getting to know their mother and recognize each other. Mostly it was still just eating that filled their waking hours. When the puppies saw the Momma get near them, they'd enter into attack mode. During the third week they all still seemed practically indistinguishable from one another.
Week Four
By the fourth week the puppies were much more confident walking. They began spending more time awake playing with each other and not just looking for their Momma with something to eat. Occasionally testing their voices, loud squeaky shouts would ring out, startling everyone in the room into laughter. They began to exhibit intelligence, showing interest in events inside and outside their living quarters.
When the Momma's away the puppies will play
They are still learning to walk and talk. They all often experiment with their voices by making different growls and barking sounds while they explore. The puppies nibble on each other when they play and paw at one another. They practice their attack maneuvers with short running spurts and growls that usually end with them rolling around on the ground.

Differences & Similarities It's too early to tell if there are any personality differences. The puppies are growing and changing every day. You only think you can see the differences in the puppies when all of them are playing together. Hold one separate from the rest and you can't easily identify it except by its sex. At times some appear to have thin faces with longer snouts and others have rounder faces with short snouts. Then from another angle they all look alike again. |
Size Is Relative They are all very small and can only be identified by their size is relationship to each other. A female and one male puppy are the smallest of the litter. The other three are almost the same size while the second female appears to be of medium size. Of the two largest males, one has a longer torso while the other has a short wider torso. At the moment, the larger female and the male with the longer torso has slightly browner coloring on top of their heads. Of course, as they continue to grow, their sizes could shift places. The coloring will definitely change when they lose the baby fur at around eight months. |
Is this my best angle? |
