[ Identity ] : She is known as Inu-Yasha's previous lover. In general, she is the former protector of the Shikon no Tama and the shrine maiden of a particular village. She was known for her immense spiritual powers and that is the reason behind the Taijiya entrusting her with the Shikon no Tama. Onigumo, the bandit in the cave, lusted after Kikyou for her beauty and yearned for her touch so much that even Naraku feels the faintest hint of the bandit's lusting.
[ Personality ] : Kikyou is a very complex person which most have a tendency to misunderstand. So I’m going to do my best to clear it up for those who are confused about it. Kikyou is like every other person, she has emotions and feelings. She wants to love and be loved, she has emotions of disliking and she isn’t always so sure. When the Taji-ya’s came to her with Shikon no Tama, she understood the costs of this. She could no longer show emotions and thus became quite emotionless.
She protected the Shikon no Tama for an unsaid amount of time and many demons tried to get it, but they were slain before they got close. One demon was Inu-Yasha, and she could never deliver the final blow because they were alike, they fought their humanity. She was deep down inside very lonely, but once she found Inu-Yasha she fell in love with him thus her spiritual powers diminished. After the betrayal she was more hurt than angry and died, taking the Shikon no Tama with her. Later when she was reincarnated you can see her anger and hurt and later on her actions may seem “bad” because she tries to kill Inu-Yasha, but that is only because he is the main character that she is seen as “evil”. Either way, she is really just very hurt and yearns to love. She really is quite tragic.
[ Appearance ] : Her white top is known as a “hakui”* and the long red skirt-like pants are known as “hakama”*. Her hair is styled in a style known as “tarashigami"*, which is basically a low straight ponytail tied with a white ribbon that hangs down the back. She wears wooden sandals with white cut-off socks. Sometimes she will let her hair come down when she summons her Shinidamachuu (dead soul insects) and intakes the souls.
Her hair is a raven black while her eyes are auburn. In my personal opinion, Kagome looks practically nothing like Kikyou. There are some resemblances, but they really don’t look that much alike. Kikyou’s facial expression varies from time to time. She gave weak smiles to Sayo at times, she glares at Inu-Yasha at times, she can give smirks to Naraku when she taunts or when she is amused by his behavior, and she can also give loving looks to Inu-Yasha. While her actual facial expression changes, there is always a small hint of sadness in her eyes. She is really a sad, lonely, and hurt person who is commonly misunderstood.
