Why Kikyou
I've listed a few reasons to like Kikyou, but now it's your turn to tell the rest of the community why you like or dislike Kikyou. Fill out the form and if it passes approval, I'll post your opinion up!

Kikyo is a tragic chacter in the story. I dislike her because she is full of hate and in order to survive must steal the souls of the dead. However I respect her (I can't really say "like") because her chacter is a mayjor part of the story. At one point she did truely love Inuyasha, now she is torn between her love and her hate. I respect her.

Date Posted: 08/13/04 8:37AMI think Kikyou's totally awesome. She's got great character depth, and a tragic history. She's just one of those characters you can't help but love, or pity. (Blah to all Kikyou-haters. They just don't understand.)
One of the main reasons why I like Kikyou is 'cause she's unpredictable. You never quite know what she's gonna do next, and she's not really classified as a "good" guy or "bad". So that also furthers the idea of Kikyou being unpredicatable. Like, for Kagome, you always know she's gonna do the nice thing. The goody-two shoe thing, cause that's just what "good" characters do. But for Kikyou, man, you just really never know. Kikyou keeps us on our toes, and keeps us guessing.
And another point. She's tough and promotes good influence for gurls. She doesn't let anybody get in her way, and doesn't let a guy fight her fights. She doesn't whine or complain about stupid stuff, and takes her job/role seriously.
So yah, I think this little blurb has gotten a bit long >.< So yah, I'll end it here by saying, Kikyou's awesome.

Date Posted: 08/16/04 10:36PM*cringes in fear of the berryberry person* You all have good points, but... mmm... I still don't like her. But - I am not a Kagome lover! I hate Kagome! But this is about Kikyo. I don't like her dead clay form because she is what I consider a "Get in the way character" (like Kouga). And as much as I don't like Kagome, I can't help but like Inu/Kag pairings... I wonder why...??? Anyway, that's why I consider Kikyo a get in the way character, because she gets in the way of Inuyasha and Kagome. But I guess, to be fair, Kikyo isn't SO BAD... Still don't like her... The old Kikyo from when she wasn't evil and made of clay I guess is fine... I guess it's just her English voice actor that really grates on me... Oh well. ^^

Date Posted: 08/16/04 10:39PMI liked Kikyo (before death) because of her obvious devotion to helping people, even to the point where she was so broken inside that she felt frozen, convinced that one mistake would kill her (and it did), maybe subconciously she was willing to die when she found Inuyasha cuz she felt so trapped and lonely...she finally risked herself to find happiness ^_^ she got happiness and death...bittersweet...until she's reincarnated and meets her love all over again! (^_^)V
After death I wouldn't even call Kikyo, Kikyou. She doesn't have her soul and I totally agree with the quote "You do not own a soul, you are a soul, you have a body." Kikyou does not have her soul. She is a combination of lots of souls, being forced to leave their own memories in trade for the awful memories of a tragic miko who's lover 'forsake' her.

Date Posted: 09/05/04 7:11PMKikyo, for sure, is an important character in "Inuyasha" but she is shown as the bad kick-butt character. I liked her before she was tricked by Naraku. I like Kagome because she is just opposite of Kikyo. Worst of all, Kikyo steals the souls of the dead to live a life, a mission to destroy the Shikon no Tama as she did 50 years ago. Another thing about Kagome, I like her with Inuyasha. Kikyo can't even respect the wishes of the young girl in the second movie who asked her to protect the jar she had that was one of the treasures. Instead, Kikyo gave it to Kagura (almost meaning Kagome's death) Sure, I respect for the fact that Kagome and Kikyo are similar and both had the same mission on protecting the jewel but Kikyo betrayed Inuyasha when she gave Kagome's shards to Naraku. Even though she had the plan to get him to collect the rest, that was pretty awful.

Date Posted: 09/05/04 7:33PMI agree with Aki in the whole respect thing. It is obvious that when she was really alive, Kikyou was a great person. Kind, caring, and full of love. She would have been like Kagome only much more mature and probably a lot less preppy. She loved children (and still do even after resurrection). What she has gone through has made her into what she is but all of this was not her fault. It was not her doing that resulted in the hateful monster created in her body. She has always been the victim and probably always will suffer because of this. I respect her for staying strong and facing these obstacles that stand in the way of her reaching nirvana and I also respect her for her determination. She is a complicated person and her theories fascinate me.
Most people judge her for being evil but in reality, she is just misunderstood. She has her reasons for doing the things that she does and frankly, who can blame her after all that she has been through?

They also hate her for being a clay pot, I mean yeah shes made out of clay, kinda weird, but it wasnt her choice, we all should be hating Urasue for bringing her to a hatred/clay form 0_0;; Anywho, I still believe Kikyou has some good in her soul which I hope she can show later in the series, oh and btw in case you didnt know i HATE kagome... she's annoying as heck as she ever does is lay around saying "naraku is a bad man" but doesnt fight. she also sits inuyasha all the time and when inuyasha is in danger she ALWAYS shouts out his name. inuyasha should be sick of that by now^^;;

Kagome however is one heck of an ugly anime!! hahahahaha c'mon she sucks at everything, algebra, and archery! Kagome also needs a psychiatrist, and an anger management program! hahahaha see Kikyo is such a lovely person that she is calm all the time and she is not clumsy like Kagome. Plus Kikyo never said Inuyasha's name like a hundred time!
Also Kikyo is an independent woman and does not shout Inuyasha's name one hundred times whenever she needs saving and Kagome is always shouting "Inuyasha!" and never does anything to save him!!!
And pleeeaaaseee people you say that Kikyo is the get in the way character but did you know that it's no one's fault everone is miserable butKagome's? well because she destroyed the shikon no tama jewel shards!!
And okay peoples you say she steals souls no? Well here is something don't you people when you see an insect you go and step on it so it won't bite you? well kikyo is obviously the same as my example! She needs to live because Inuyasha longs for her and she wants to make him happy and as one of you said..Kikyo risked everything to get happiness, true she wants her happiness and Inuyasha's! And last Kikyo saved so many people when she lived that I am sure that the spirits she has taken are a way of thanks the villagers would give for her, in one of the episodes a villager says, " We love our dearest priestess so much we will give her our own lives, and minds if she must have them." There. Is that not clear enough for all you kikyo haters that Kikyo was so pure in her mind her heart that everyone loved her? Even when she is dead everyone respects her even Naraku..the bad guy!

1) "I hate Kikyou cause she's getting in the way of Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship."
Kikyou is not getting into Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship. If she did, then she would have joined the Inuyasha gang and tried to break Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship. Kikyou gave up on Inuyasha. She know's she's dead. She can't be with Inuyasha in the world of the living. Have you noticed everytime Kikyou and Inuyasha met she always ended up leaving him behind or saying "return to your companions Inuyasha," She never wanted to get between Inuyasha and Kagome. If you want to blame someone, blame Inuyasha. He is the one who can't decide who to choose. Don't blame Kikyou because she's getting in the way of Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship.
2) "Kikyou's evil. I hate her."
How can you say that's she's evil. Most Kikyou basher attack her straight on without thinking. They make her into the *****y, evil, stupid being. She's not evil. Why do you say she's evil? Because she tried to kill Inuyasha and Kagome? Because she doesn't like Kagome? Would you be pissed off if the last thing you remember is your lover betraying you? Heck I would be totally angry! She tried to kill Inuyasha right? She wanted to drag him to hell because she thought it would have been better for him if he would live peacefully thinking about her. It was love that made her want to bring him to hell. Isn't it normal for Kikyou to hate Kagome. Don't you have someone in your life that you can't stand? Don't you get jealous sometimes? Same thing with Kikyou and Kagome. I'll ask you this. How can you be evil if you wonder around help injured soldiers and teaching kids?
3) "Kikyou should remain dead."
You can't help it if you were brought back to life against your will. She never wanted to be brought back to life. She was happy the way she was. She died for Inuyasha, Kagome is well enough alive. She's only walking around to kill Naraku. Revenge. She wants justice in her death. Wouldn't you?
I like Kikyou cause she's not the type of girl that is weak. She defends herself, travels by herself, and takes care of herself. She's not the type to throw a tantrum. She's calm, cool, and caring towards the ones she loves.
Hate Kikyou all you want, but don't go turning her into something she isn't. You have your own opinions and I have mine, but just don't turn her something she isn't. She can't help walking around, she can't help feeling lost, she's just a broken soul yearning for justice. I hope this gave you some reason to not have Kikyou. You just have to understand both sides.

Date Posted: 12/26/04 12:42AMI have to say I agree with some all of you.But Kikyo isn't really a bad person,or a good person.I just think that Kikyo goes better with Inuyasha,I mean look.Kagome is a present schoolgirl,and inuyasha is in the past.Just the thought of them getting together makes no sense.I've heard that ppl say Kikyo gets in the way of Inuyasha and Kagome but really,its Kagome that comes in between them.But then,Kagome is always polite and nice and brings happiness to inuyasha,so I dont really know who I like.

People who I have come across have said that they dont like Kikyou because she the bad guy-or in this case girl-in the story. Some who say that they hate her have not really thought over why they hate Kikyou. I personally admit, that at first I hated Kikyou with passion. I ALWAYS thought that she stood in the way of Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship. Just when something good happended between them, she would show up. Well I now think that I was a COMPLETE fool. I was a follower of my fellow companions and friends that hated Kikyou because of her-would I dare say 'INTRUSION'-in Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship.
I now see MY reality of it. Kikyou and Inuyasha loved each other. LOVED! Past tense. I am not the writer or creator of Inuyasha, so I dont know what Rumiko Takahashi intented. But this is MY conflicting part: Kikyou and Inuyasha never really loved each other. It was the illusion of love. Why would you want to change something you love. But this is the other part of the confliction, True if you're with somebody that you love, of course you want to change something about them. That's what love is. Isn't it? I personally already have made my decision about it. I am in love with somebody. His name is Pablo. I love him with all my heart, so much I married him. I DO want to change things about him. Just like Kikyou, so she could live the life of an ordinarly woman. Think about this. Inuyasha was willing to give up, being what seprarated him from everybody-his half demon side-to live a life with the woman he loved. What would Kikyou be giving up? Her responsibility of the Shikon and she didnt want to be its protecter. Inuyasha was willing to quit being what he hated- being a half-breed. So would they be giving thing up what they didnt like for a new life that they would? CLEVER! But then, people say 'Well it wouldnt be a pure wish' You're opinion...DECIEDE!
Kikyou is neither the bad or good girl in this story. She did 'attack' Kagome and gave a nice chunk of the Shikon No Tama to Naraku. She had her reasons to do that, but I sorta still dont get it. That puts her in the 'bad' side. BUT, she attacks Naraku and Tsubaki, when they put a curse on Kagome. Good side. Maybe she does it because she has a rivalry with Tsubaki, who tried to harm her. Or NEUTRAL. Yes thats where she walks.
In conclusion, there are lots of reasons why you SHOULD and SHOULDNT like Kikyou. Her role in the story is what I would like to call a 'INFLUENTIAL CHARACTER'. I do feel pity for her because she believes that Inuyasha betrayed her. Its her hate and love that wants to kill but love him. It shows when in one of the episodes when Inuyasha hugs her, she fights at first, but lets herself re-live, only for a few seconds how it feels to have Inuyasha show her something that may have died along with her flesh and blood. Then she pulls a knife on him to show her that she's NOT WEAK. I might be wrong. YOU might think that I am wrong. But like I said its MY opinion and NOBODY can change that.
