This is the part, of the hospital, I refer to as the' white section'. The reason being - Yes! It's white! The picture here is the main corridor in the A&E department. You can see the wooden boards which stopped rushing beds destroying the walls. I think the A&E reception is on the left. I seem to remember there beeing a somewhat bigger hatch than the one on the left so I'd assume this was for staff to use. To the right, is the old waiting room area, the round thing on the outside of the building. I think most of this department was added in the seventies and just leads into the main hospital. Below is one of the main ward corridors and next to it is one of many small rooms in this building. I think it may have once been a private room but was most likely used as some form of office. Unfortunately, it's another rain blurred picture but the writing on the radiator (below the window) instructs the forthcoming workmen that there's asbestos below the floor. What fun! |

This room was on a higher up floor of the white section. Judging by the pinboard and the lack of anything except sockets, this must have been an office space of some sort. I took this shot because of the picture imprisoned here behind three wooden rails. Which came first? Picture or rails? Why the rails? They're clearly no form of structural support, neither do they appear to have formed any sort of shelving. Why put the picture behind them when there's a whole blank wall on the left? The picture is a poster of an oil painting featuring a garden in bloom looking out to a boat at sea. Somebody will probably point out that it's amazingly famous and that I'm too ignorant of art to notice. Below, there are two operating theatres, in this section, that I saw. There may have been another. Below left, the old lights still hang as though ready to go. I briefly considered trying to obtain a couple of sets thinking that they'd be great fittings to have in a nightclub! The tables were long gone. Hanging down from the ceiling, were sets of hoses. You can just see a set behind the lights. These were there so any gasses needed could be hooked on from above. There were also large control pannels on the wall which gave hints of having some form of power backup, possibly batteries. There were also gas and environmental controls. The sinks were in a room just next to the theatre. Most likely scrub up for surgeons, but didn't feature the elbow operated taps usualy found in such places. Maybe these sinks had other uses. |

Above
left, is one of the ground floor wards in the white section. this was
taken through the window. Needs new paint but not too bad. Above right,
this ward was first of second floor over by the A&E yard. You can
see the fairly serious water damage here. A lot of water was dripping
through.
