(What's left of it...)

I moved to Truro in September 1999. I first noticed the hospital site shortly afterwards whilst making a college film, in which I had to run around in the overgrown grass at the front of the site. I had noticed the large incinerator chimney poking out of the trees, but nobody seemed to know what it was. It had only been about four years since the site closed. People just seemed to forget it's there. I moved into a house, in late 2001, just up the road and found myself walking past the site nearly every day. Upon discovering the rear car park, with views to some of the closed buildings (as well as free parking), I became more and more interested with the rather sad looking place which still had signs of it's former glory as Cornwall's biggest and best hospital. All over the site there are the remains of gardens which once boasted well tended exotic plant life, now a jungle at it's best. Walks around the security fences made me decide that one day I'd document the amazing and quite rapid decay of a place which once was scrubbed and sterile. When I heard that the site was to be largely demolished, I decided that I'd better get on with finding a way in. That I did and over three separate days I took the pictures you're about to see. Enjoy.

Please sign the guestbookand feel free to email me about this site. If anyone has any pictures of this hospital in use, I'd like to put them up on this site, to give an interesting contrast. Also, if you recognise somewhere you used to work, let me know.

PLEASE NOTE!

As of now, there is work commencing on the removal of asbestos. It is now extremely dangerous to enter the site and the police will be called if anybody sees you. The site is guarded twenty-four hours a day so please do not visit!
