Gramps Garden Makeover pt 1

Back to Home Page

Gramps Exclusive Country Resort (a made-up name resulting from having lot's of friends and family stay on their way through to Melb or adelaide) was a vacant block (with a few trees) in June 2001
when my partner and I bought it. Weeds were over 5 feet high in
places. The block is 20 by 60 m (deep to the North).

January 2002

We set about landscaping the back half of the block. This was with raised beds of sandy loam and eucalyptus mulch.

March 2003

We followed a shallow
meandering depression as a guide for a dry creek bed garden. We had to be realistic
about what we could achieve -- knowing that the plumber would
eventually trench through to the back for the sewer connection.

photos show the dates and growth... It's now a garden that you have to move around to see all the plants and landscape rocks etc, not a one-glance garden.

January 2004

The first heavy rain after the sewer went in, and the ground subsided massively where the deep trench (~5.5 m!) was for the main sewer connection...

this took some poly piping I'd layed-in down a metre or so in the process! More is the irony, that when we get standing water
in the yard, the creek absorbs more water than the surrounding bare earth - so it doesn't fill up!
