Interview with...

Lord Docimer & Lady Morgannia

Coversation was spoken in Empath Guild

You ask, "Do you mind if i ask you a few questions about empathing here and the customs of Riverest?"

  • Docimer says, "My pleasure, ask away, M'Lady."

  • Docimer smiles at you.

You ask, Have you been residing here most of your life?"

  • Docimer says, "I have lived here in RR since I was 1. Am now 21..."

  • Docimer says, "I went to Landing long enough to join a society there..."

  • Docimer says, "I have 2 brothers. One who lives mostly here... Dcorum the cleric. And one who spends most of his time in landings hunting for Voln. Dophaz the rogue..."

You say, "Good, so you know all the customs of empathing here."

  • Docimer nods to you.

  • Docimer smiles.

You say, "I mean the "basic" etiquette is for all towns but each town also has their own little customs as well"

  • Docimer says, "The empaths do try to keep track of who is here. And most, with the exception of Slightley, try to share wounds."

You says, "I noticed that in my observations since i been here."

You ask , "If a young empath wanted to live here and learn the customs what would you reccomend to him?"

  • Docimer says, "I would recommend coming to Sanctuary and identify themself in guild. And point out they are young

  • Docimer says, "And here never be afraid to ask for assistance or information"

You ask, "Including hunting and such?"

  • Docimer says, "As for hunting... Best to start with rats and crabs."

  • Docimer says, "The alchemist is good for mongrel kobolds. But they run a lot."

  • Docimer says, "One thing that is very important to know is eagles..."

  • Docimer says, "They are found to the east and north of the garden. And very dangerous to the younger folk"

  • Docimer says, "Another good place to hunt is the zoo. But they need to be careful walking there. Because they have to walk past bone golems and firephantoms."

You ask, "What training range are the firephantoms and bone golems?"

  • Docimer says, "Firephantoms are level 6 undead. Bone Golems are level 8 I think, both are undead."

  • Docimer says, "Another useful thing about hunting here in RR. Is to say where you will be hunting when standing in sanctuary before you go. At least in the early days of hunting here until people know you..."

You ask, "I know there are not many empaths here, but the few who are here, especially the young, do you form hunting groups?"

  • Docimer says, "As an empath here it is useful to know what 'the garden' 'the zoo' 'the ravine' 'the tunnel' 'the ship' and 'the lair' mean"

  • Docimer says, "It does happen. But not that often. It should happen more."

You say, "It would be nice idea to form groups for the young ones, especially young empaths and newcomers"

  • Docimer says, "There are people here who will hunt with younger folk even when it is way below them. But then youngsters must ask..."

  • Docimer says, "Oh. Yes. One VERY important thing to include."

  • Docimer says, "Never minor sanctify in the ravine"

  • Docimer says, "That is where the eagles drop you. Below the bridge to Citadel"

You asks, "What happens if you sanct it?"

  • Docimer says, "I am not sure with the enhancements to minor sanctuary. But it use to mean certain death if you sanctified down there."

  • Docimer says, "And it use to be that they could attack in a minor sanctuary but you could not retaliate"

  • Docimer says, "IN short. Rasskazhitiye just pointed out over the net that there was a warfarer in the grate"

  • Docimer says, "On the way to the ship... Gyuin went and killed it to keep it safe for the younger folk"

  • Docimer says, "That is the kind of use the amunet is primarily used for here."

You say, "so everyone looks out for each other here like family"

  • Docimer says, "Very much so"

You say, "That's comforting to know."

  • Docimer says, "warfarers occationally like to leave the ship."

  • Docimer says, "So people will call when they are in the tunnel. And especially by the grate"

  • Docimer says, "Because no one expects them in the grate"

  • Docimer says, "Oh yeah. Another thing about empathing here..."

  • Docimer says, "It is not uncommon to heal someone on the other side of the tunnel so they can be raised."

You ask, "The tunnel to the ship?"

  • Docimer nods to you.

  • Docimer says, "If that happens there is sometimes request for a cleaning on the other side of the tunnel"

  • Docimer says, "Or worst cast a request for some cloves"

  • Docimer says, "The only true safe places here are the center of commons, sanctuary here and the whole of the garden"

  • Docimer says, "And behind the green barrier. But that is a whole nother story"

  • Docimer says, "during an invasion the common places to 'fortify' or the garden, or the tunnel entrance just inside."

  • Docimer says, "Because empaths are not so plentiful all the time, and because wounds come in burst. Times when I have waited hours for someone to come in with a wound."

You ask in guild speak, "I prefer to clean up my own wounds as a show of independance and self reliance, how are the empath customs here for clean up?"

  • Docimer says, "I often sit here with minor wounds and just wait."

  • Docimer says, "No need to heal them unless something happens."

  • Docimer says, "Though I am just now starting to work on the scar spells"

  • Docimer says, "I have on occasion sat here for a couple days with minor wounds."

  • Docimer says, "I agree about independance."

  • Docimer says, "But no need to waste it unless it is really necessary"

  • Docimer says, "I think I told you the other day... Most people here have an expectation that comming into sanctuary they will be healed. But know that there are times that they might have to wait hours for an empath to show up too."

You nod to Docimer.

  • Docimer says, "Some of us have been known to watch ourselves and 'steal' the minor as someone heals it down. But like normal ettiquette, we only do that with people we know and know they do not mind."

You ask, "I noticed you don't allow picking of boxes here as all towns are against any public picking, especially near medical areas. Is southeast of here the only place where pickers go?"

  • Docimer says, "We ask, mostly in whispers, that people do not pick or pop boxes here in sanctuary"

  • Docimer says, "Picking boxes is for SE of here or in commons"

You nod to Docimer.

  • Docimer says, "Another thing about here. Most people simply give amulets away if they have extra's"

  • Morgannia, "For the most part, we try to help the younger ones out by letting them grab what they can"

  • Morgannia, "River's Rest has always been very open and helpful for healers"

You ask, "Is there anything else I or others should know? about empathing or otherwise?"

  • Morgannia says, "Naw, we pretty much grab the wounds as the hunters come in."

  • Docimer says, "As I said. Tis important for younger ones to identify how old they be."

  • Docimer says, "Most of us will leave limbs and other minors that are appropriate to their age."

You say in guild speak, "well this will help me update my journal and explain the different customs and etiquettes of empathing in each town. Thank you Docimer. Thank you Morgannia"

  • Docimer says, "Glad I could help"

You say in guild speak, "yes, you have been extremely helpful, thank you"

THE ONLY WAY TO RIVERREST NOW IS THROUGH SOLHAVEN

Taken from the Unofficial Gemstone III Messageboards with permission. www.the-spot.com

The boat leaves from Glok's Pier in Marshtown. It has no set schedule but appears to come around just about once every four hours or so, but sometimes it can be much faster or slower.

If you are in Marshtown or Solhaven when it arrives, you will be notified by a little girl who skips through town.

You can buy tickets at the locksmith in haven or at the stone eye in Rivers Rest (half price). You need a ticket for both trips, but the RR (cheaper) tickets are valid from either side. To get Tickets...

Haven to Rivers rest:
From North Market:
n, nw, u, nw, nw, nw, nw, w, n, nw, w, w, go door.
then you ask the locksmith about ticket
then out, e, e, se, s, w, go pier.

Rivers rest to Haven:
From the commons:
go path, ne, e, n, n, nw, w, climb stair, ne, nw, climb stair,
then you ask Percy about ticket
then climb stair, se, sw, out, e, se, s, s, w, sw, s, go weeds

The price for the tickets is 1k (1/2k in RR) per level of the buyer (and the ticket is linked to the buyer). There is no guarantee that the ship will take you all the way (Imperial navy is lying off Solhaven intercepting the smugglers). At least on the Solhaven - RR trip you can be dumped on the Solhaven beach (on the other you can be dumped on that same beach, but at least you made the trip). There is no refund in such a case.

The boat sails without a fixed schedule (roughly every two hours), and a runner announces it's arrival in Rivers Rest and Solhaven (including Marshtown). At least on the RR side, adventurers also announce the arrival on the regular amulet channel.

I have not heard anything about bribing Knaydl (the captain), it's more likely that you heard one of our typical RR jokes (yesterday to pass some time we made some people believe the bait had just capsized under the drawbridge and that Knaydl slowly floating out to sea, those who tried to find the gangplank to board were to look downriver where the three masts were sticking out of the water).

To board, you have to be at Glok's pier in Haven or under teh drawbridge in RR.

Sometimes the boat does not take passngers in Solhaven. You'll just have to wait a bit longer.
