Floating disks
|

|
What are magic disks?
Magic disks are flimsy circular fabric of magic force on the ground where
you can put things on top. The neat thing is that the disk will follow you
around. Each person can only have one disk at a time, although there have
been rumors of adventurers with more than one.
How much can fit on a disk?
Eight items can fit on a disk. There is no weight limit. After all, the disk
is just sitting on the floor. For locked boxes, each item inside the boxes
count as individual items. So a disk may only hold 2 or 3 locked boxes.
Where do you get magic disks?
Magic disks are created by a spell. Rubbing Black Crystals or other embedded
items with the disk spell will give you a disk. You can also find spell casters
who would create a disk for you. Some generous casters will create them for
free. The going rate for a disk is either 1k in silvers or a good wand (not
iron, silver, or metal wands). Of course, you can create the disk yourself
if you know the spell.
|
|
How long does the disk last?
|
As long as you remain alive and in the world of Elanthia. Be warned, however,
that storms (crashes) or other unexpected events could cause your disk to
disappear. So, never ever place anything valuable on top of your disk.
|
What good are disks then?
Disks are great if you will be hunting monsters with heavy equipment that
can be sold at the pawnshop. Normal armor and weapons are heavy, but they
are worth some money if you sell them. If you get a disk for 1,000 silvers,
you can make more than that in one trip if you use the disk to carry back
8 suits of armors worth 200 silvers each. The more trips you make in the
same session, the more profitable the disk becomes.
Of course, you can decide to use a trunk to store those goods. The only
disadvantage is that trunks don't follow you around. Or, you can use both
a disk and a trunk. I did that for a while when I was Elanthia's janitor.

How do you use magic disk?
|
Your disk is named after you. For example, it'll say Death's disk. When
referencing the disk, make sure you reference the disk by... d disk. You
can "look in d disk", "open d disk", "close d disk", etc.
A note of caution, when your disk is open, anyone can take items out of you
disk. After all, the items are just lying on the ground. It is a good idea
to wrap your items up with the magic fabric to close the disk. Only you can
open or close the disk. This can be a problem sometimes when selling at the
pawnshop. Make sure noone else is selling the same item you plan to sell
so they won't accidentally sell your items when you open your disk.

| |
What if you teleport away to somewhere else?
Don't worry, the disk is linked to your life energy. It'll follow you very
quickly. Is it cool to have a disk following you around even if you don't
use it? That depends. Personally, it gives me the creeps to have something
follow me around everywhere I go. I prefer to carry around a trunk.
On the other hand, if you're an ambusher, having a disk sitting in the room
with locked boxes will let passerbys know you're there... or at least close
by. It's kind of like a flag to claim your spot.

Added note from Jypsie: Berylla
has a list of gems that can be used to change the color of your disk, check
it out by clicking on Berylla's link below.

Disk Color and Gems
Wizards know that holding a gem can effect the color of your disk. Just hold
a gem in your LEFT hand and cast the spell. The gem will be burned to ashes,
however so don't try this trick on gems you want to keep!
