Past Models - SHENANDOAH

This model of the "SHENANDOAH" is the reproduction of an American "Custom Cutter" , at the age of American Civil War. The ships of this type were used for fast transport of precious merchandise, for the coast patrolling and support operations to greater ships. 

Probably coming from a Dutch design, this type of ship was widespread along the coasts of the   North Sea and in the Northern Atlantic.

The lenght of this type of ships varied from 14 to 20 meters, and always they had very sharp hull shapes and were very fast.

This model is based on a photographic reconstruction of the hull of a cutter used in Civil War from Confederation Navy, left of the port of Norfolk after a bombing from enemies. The picture shows the hull, without mast and sail.  The masting and rigging were based on painting of the same age.

There are no more infos about this ship (as reported) in COREL catalogue. In my model I just addded  two light carronades near the stern.
