A.K.A. "Futball Girl"

Name: Sara Houston
Age: 21
Place of Origin: Waterloo/Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Schooling: I'm a second year student at
the University of Waterloo where I'm taking Kinesiology (i.e. the study
of how the body moves and the human body) and I'm planning to complete
a computer science minor and that's where this exchange comes into play...
oh yeah I'm also a coop student..
I'm just starting my computer science minor and I think this exchange
would be a great intro to my education..
What else can I tell you about me is that you are going to meet the biggest
sporty person you'll ever know and I'm not kidding here. (I can find
no one to keep up with me in the amount of physical activity that I do..)
I play squash, tennis, badminton, soccer, hockey, football, running, soccer,
snowboarding, skiing, rock climbing, boxing, road biking and the list goes
on.
Let's just say I'm known to use the pick up line, “do you rock
climb?” though let me tell you it's a good conservation starter no matter
if the guy is interested in going or not... you'll have a good conservation..
Hobbies:
Obvious. Sports. (i.e. rock climbing, snowboarding, mountain biking, road
biking, blading, hockey, skating, soccer, swimming, squash, badminton …
the list goes on) camping, traveling, reading and socializing.
Favorite Sayings:
“I'm bored, entertain me please!”
“Live life to the fullest with no regrets.”
Favorite Songs:
“Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cindy Lauper
“Clumsy” by Our Lady Peace
Why did you join the program?
I was unsure about everything in life. I was not enjoying my major in kinesiology
and wanted to explore IT and international development. I also wanted to learn
more about another culture. And, of course I wanted to make new, life long
friends.
What did you achieve?
I have accomplished a lot. I have learned more about myself, my strengths
and my weaknesses. Mostly I know now to not let any opportunities pass me
by. But time will tell what I truly learned from this experience.
What was the funniest thing that happened on the program?
Taneisha believing a frozen can of juice was a juice box and Taneisha sliding
for the first time. Or Dionne selling CAP site tags.
What are your future plans?
Go back to Canada for awhile to enjoy friends, family and the pleasures of
snowboarding and rock climbing.
In March, come back to Jamaica to continue working at Bethabara Infant School
as a teacher and run the CAP site there.
Then leave for Canada in September to finish my Kinesiology/Computer Science
degree at the University of Waterloo. Then in the future pursue a career in
International Development n travel.
