Name: Mélanie
Roberge
Age: 26
Place of Origin: St. Hubert, Quebec, Canada
My name is Melanie Roberge. I was born in Pembroke, but have been living in
Quebec since the age of 5. I'm an army brat. I moved around a lot, but just
in Quebec because my father is francophone so he wanted french positions.
I'm 26 years old, I have a boyfriend who I met on
the internet... yes, it works! and we've been together for almost 3 years.
And no, he wasn't happy when I left for 6 months. We have 2 cats, Tiger
and Dookie. Maybe I'll post pictures of my cats. I love cats... I'm crazy
for cats... well, not THAT crazy!!!
As for professional stuff, I have a bachelor's degree in Sexology... yes,
it's real! I didn't like it though, not enough job opportunities, so I became
a secretary for a few years. Then I got sick of that, so I ended taking a
course in computers offered by the government to put people back on the job
market. Since my contract was over, I took it! I learned stuff on Windows,
hardware, networking, Office, Novell and web design... but all that was basics,
I don't have any advanced skills other than with Office (being a secretary
and all)...
My class finished in February 2002, and since then, I've been working at Royal
Bank as a technical analyst / dispatcher. I provide tech support on the phone
for mobile bankers (laptops) and I do the service call dispatching to IBM
for any hardware that needs to be fixed. As you can probably tell, I have
lots of time on my hands at work!! The calls don't come in too much these
days! I also do little jobs for family and friends, like re-installing Windows
and checking configuration problems.
As for hobbies,
Hobbies:
Watching movies, reading, making crafts, flying kites and I love dancing, but don't get to do it very often.
Favorite Saying:
“Are we there yet?”
Favorite Song:
“Good Riddance” by Green Day
Why did you join the program?
I applied for this program for professional reasons. I had just finished computer
classes and I was looking for experience in Information Technology. I thought
I would further my knowledge about Information Technology.
What did you achieve?
My biggest achievement on this program would be to have finished the program
without getting kicked off or quitting.
What was the funniest thing that happened on the program?
Me actually lasting through the whole program!!!
What are your future plans?
As soon as I get home, I'm having a big juicy T-bone steak with a baked
potato, sour cream and bacon bits. Then I'm going skiing. Then on February
23, I'm off again for a trip to Cuba where I'll be enjoying a
long deserved vacation. I will also be getting engaged as soon as I get back
from this internship and get married in the next year. And, I'll have
Natalie visit me in Montreal during summer 2004 or winter 2005. I'm
planning on working as a network administrator or a technical support analyst
for a big company. I also want to finish my Microsoft certification.
