I'll start off by saying
that I'm from Vancouver, grew up in Victoria and haven't travelled
from home for more than a month ever. So this whole exchange will
be an eye opener! I come from a background of media, film, television,
and worked in a 3D animation studio. 3 days before the internship
began; I just finished a multimedia program at the downtown campus
for UBC!

Why
did you join the program?
Basically, I wanted to gain insight into the way the human family
lives and shares the world but also to satisfy my own personal
desire for exploring.
What
did you achieve?
I have become a much more understanding and confident individual.
I've gained some new knowledge into the construction of computers,
but for the most part I've achieved a greater sense of self and
comfort in my own skin. My abilities in conflict resolution and
adult education models were enhanced, even though they still confuse
me!!
What
was the funniest thing that happened on the program?
There was a great laugh when the Canadians first experienced driving
in Jamaica! We were screaming the whole way saying “I'm
gonna die!,” as the driver veered around mind boggling corners
and overtook other vehicles, driving into oncoming traffic. Thirdly,
when Darius dressed up like Santa for Christmas and posed for
a picture doing the “wisdom.” That gave me stomach
pains it was so funny! The Jamaican guys also thought it would
be funny while in Canada to run out into the snow in their underwear.
Little did they know! A funny sight is an understatement for that
little fiasco. They wanted to prove it wasn't THAT cold!
What
are your future plans?
My future plans change all the time but consist mainly of getting
a Bachelor's degree and to study in the area of environmental
and social politics. I also envision a future for myself in learning
to speak Spanish and French fluently and to travel abroad to use
them. I would like to, at some point, live in Eastern Canada,
preferably Montreal.
