
Canada World Youth is a national, non-governmental organization that
provides young people from Canada and around the world with the opportunity
to travel, live and work in different communities, to learn about local and
international development, and to gain important job skills for the future.
Brief History
Canada World Youth was founded in 1971 by the Honourable Jacques Hébert,
retired senator and well-known Canadian writer and publisher. Mr. Hébert has
been nominated for the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize. Canada World Youth is supported
by the Canadian International Development Agency, exchange country partners,
and thousands of donors across Canada. The Canada World Youth programs operate
in Canada and countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean,
and Central and Eastern Europe.
VISION STATEMENT
Canada World Youth envisions a world of active, engaged
global citizens who share responsibility for the well-being of all people
and the planet.
MISSION STATEMENT
Canada World Youth's mission is to increase the ability
of people, and especially youth, to participate actively in the development
of just, harmonious and sustainable societies.
Organizational goals
- To foster the acquisition of the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary for active community involvement.
- To create a network of people of different backgrounds and cultures united by mutual respect and understanding.
- To establish partnerships with countries, organizations, communities, groups and individuals that will serve as a basis for effective action.
