Welcome!! My name is Kayon and I was a
participant on the JamNet youth exchanged program.
This site was created as a flashback to the JamNet group of 2002 - 2003 also to educate
others about this program on what it entails or its purpose. This site also contains information
on the program its self of which we placed into our JamNet magazine. So you could say this is
the magazine published via the internet.
The program was started by a former Prime Minister of Jamaica (now deceased) Michael
Manley and former Prime Minister of Canada Pier Trudeau (I think he’s still alive) in 1986.
Since then it has become an on going program of which, a lot of pupils have benefited from.
On the program you’ll all be pair up with someone from the other country where you'll exchange
ideas (cultural exchange), this person is refer to as you counterpart together you are both
called counterpart pairs. You’ll also be placed in homes with host families in both phases. Your
host family will be your new family for the next three months. They will be entitled to feed you,
cloth you if neccessary etc. you know treat you like their own. Your host family may consist of
a mother, father and child or children, single mother and child. Never actually heard of a single
father but its possible.
The JamNet 2002 - 2003 program took place in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI),
Canada and Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica where all our enjoyable series of volunteerism and
community develpment were exercised.
Be free to browse and gather information and don't hesitate to drop me an e-mail if you need to
ask any questions or just to give any feedback on the site.

JamNet is an Information Technology based program that focuses mainly on community development
through volunteerism. The JamNet program takes place in the countries Canada and Jamaica. The
program has a duration of six months; the first three months in Canada we called the first phase
and the next three months in Jamaica the second phase. Throughout these six months you’ll learn
and be exposed to a lot of thing, different culture and climate two major examples.
