Q: How old is Hikaru?

In the beginning of the manga, he is 12 (1999). The timeline in the manga is relatively the same as real life timeline. So now Hikaru is 15.

Q: What's the deal with Hikaru "5" T-shirt?

The Japanese of "5" is Go. Since it has the same pronounciation as Go, that's why "5" is usually used as Hikaru T-shirt design.

Q: But.. Hikaru wore that kind of shirts even before he met Sai?!

Er... That one... I donno.... ^^;;; Maybe Hikaru just love number "5".

Q: Does Hikaru actually like Akari?

That question is beyond me ^^;;;; All I know that they are close childhood friends/neighbours. Whether they can be together or not, that's up to the author ^__^

Q: Why does Hikaru have such a funny hair colour?

There's lots of possible answers for this. The character design are mostly done by Takeshi Obata, not Hotta Yumi. Even Hotta Yumi also had a *Shock* to see Hikaru dyed his hair. As for why Takeshi Obata gave Hikaru such hair design: First, it might be just a hair design, no particular reason given as long as it looks cool. Another reason could be because he wanted to make Hikaru to look more playful. Isn't it how he suppose to be when Hikaru was first introduced ---> He scored 8 for his History and excels in sport. Typical playful kids who never expected to learn Go ^_^
