Elmyra was born in the working class city of Junon, where she grew up with a decent education. She married her high school sweetheart, at the young age of seventeen, who soon after the wedding joined SOLDIER. He brought Elmyra with him, where they moved in together and lived in Midgar. SOLDIER training took Elmyra's husband away from her alot, but she learned to deal with it.
When Shin-Ra went to war with Wutai, Elmyra's husband was, of course, called into action. When many SOLDIERs were being sent home, Elmyra would check the train station daily for her returning husband. However, he never returned.
Instead, a sick looking woman collasped at the stop one say, her baby daughter with her. She begged Elmyra to take her daughter, Aeris, and care for her, as she was about to die.
Elmyra could not refuse, and took the child away as the mother breathed her last on the concrete floor of the station. Overtime, Elmyra grew close to the child she cared for and worried about her a great deal. She knew Aeris was special, the way she could talk to the Planet. Especially when she told Elmyra when her husband had died....
