Marissa Rovinski wondered into the room and looked around. She wondered why it was so quiet in the normally loud cafeteria. Then she saw it. The crew of the Andromeda Ascendent stood at the front of the room. She immediately caught the eye of the blond engineer standing off towards one side. She gave him a sparkly smile and then went to get her food. She sat down with it and listened to Dylan speak about the drift joining the Common Wealth. The people immediately joined the Common Wealth, hereing the great speech he gave.
When they broke out all the beer for the celebration, Marissa wondered up to Harper. “Hi. I’m Marissa. I’m really glad that we’re part of the Common Wealth now. I was wondering if you need any help on the Andromeda? I’m an engineer too and I think I could really help you out. I know lots about ISP valves, and how to adjust the phase variance and reverse the polarity of the deuterium injector, and–“
Harper stopped her, laughing. “Okay, okay. You’ve got the job. Just report to the Andromeda tomorrow. Bring your tools, if you’ve gottem.” Harper smiled at her, and her heart beat faster and faster as she fell deeper and deeper in love with him.
Marissa's mind swam, amazed that the connection she already felt with him. “Sure thing. See you tomorrow."
