Intrigues: Chapter 3

“As them to meet me there” Dylan replied. With that he got up, put on a jacket, and left his quarters. Tyr, for his part, just sat in thought.

Minutes later, Dylan saw Ivette, Trance and the former’s friend standing there, waiting for them. He gave Ivette a subtle look by raising his eyebrows and scrunching up his forehead. As for her friend, he could not help but notice a piercing look; his eyes focusing on Dylan, looking blank, yet straight ahead. It seemed to be the look of someone sizing up his opponent.

Vrednak for his part, noticed the look  Ivette’s partner, a human with brown hair and blue eyes giving her a look

“Apparently” He thought to himself, “Her trip was unexpected, and they were not a good terms.”

“Welcome to the Andromeda” the captain welcomed him.

“Thank you, I appreciate your hospitality.” Vrednak’s politiness sounded more genuine that it was.

“So, you’re a friend of Ivette’s?” Dylan’s curiousity could not be helped, though he knew enough to make it sound like polite interest.

“Yes, I served as a government representative, in the Military station where she worked.”

“Oh?”

“Her and I would talk from time to time, whenever both of us had any free time”

“I see. Why don’t you let Ivette escort you to your quarters, anything you need, just ask”

So, Vrednake left, and just as Ivette was following, Dylan whispered in her ear “We’ll talk later”

Soon, after walking several corridors, Ivette showed Vrednak to his room, one of the VIP suites.

“Here’s your room” During the trip, they were standing side by side, but now they were face to face.

“So, do you miss that paradise called the Federation?”

“Sometimes, but I don’t regret my staying here. I’ve always like making life better for others, and restoring civilization is the way to do it.”

“You universal translator looks like a new model. May I see it?”

“Certainly” He took it off and gave it to her.

As soon as she got it, Ivette turned it off by unplugging the power source.

“What are you doing??” Vrednak spoke English, as a result of his work, so he could still speak to Ivette. “Give it back!” Vrednak  did not want to  physically fight over the device.

“Your story about  some cousin with some mystery magical device? You actually thought I’d believe it?” Ivette was smiling now.

“I was going to tell you the truth, when we were alone” Vrednak tried to look earnest by widening his eyes.

“Yeah, and I’m the Risian Love Goddess”  She cocked her head to one side, winking.

Vrednak took a deep breath. “I see, you are using the device as leverage”

“Yep”

“Well, I guess that I will retire” With that he whisked into his quarters,  closing the door behind him, angrily, using the rage he could not talk out on Ivetten on his clenched fists.

When he closed the door, Ivette sighed.

Later, Ivette went to talk to Dylan at his desk. The moment she came in, he looked up from a flexi, one of many piled on his desk. As usual, he was wearing his grey vest and red, turtle neck shirt.

“Why did you just leave? Without telling anyone.?” He looked her straight in the eye.

“Because he’s my friend, and he’s in a strange universe. Besides, he is up to something, as he told me this bogus story about some cousin having an interdimensional device.” Ivette smiled, as she knew that in this argument, she had the upper hand.

“I see. How did you know it was bogus?”

“Romulans are practical, why go to another universe when you can just go live, by your wits in  one of the many worlds, where it is easy to be anonymous? “

“I see. Next time, though, please let me know, okay” He shrugged his shoulders as he said this.

“Fine.”

“Any idea about what your friend is up to?”

“No, but I hope to find out, I took away his universal translator as leverage and to keep him out of trouble, for now.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, without it, he can’t communicate, at least for a while.”

“I’m going to go talk to him again soon. By the way, about that summit, you might find that the representative to the Andromeda might get sick….and faint just before it all begins…..”

“Okay, okay….” Dylan raised his hands with resignation, “I’ll say that you have too many duties here.” He sighed after he said this.

“Thanks!” She kissed him on the check.

Soon, she was in Vrednak’s quarters. They were quite spacious, with a large living room  large couch included, an office space for a desk, chair and lamp, and a bedroom that is almost bigger than the rest of the quarters combined. However, she noticed music playing, it was one of her favorite old Earth songs, and Vrednak stretch hign his hand, asked to to her to dance, as he had learn from her how to dance various Earth music styles. Ivette consented, for the sake of old times. As the song played He had his hand on her right waist,  and both would pull apart, and come together, while their left hands did the same.

“I’ve got, you, under my skin,
I’ve got you, deep into the heart of me
So deep in my heart, that you are really a part of me,
I’ve got you, under my skin…

I’d sacrifice anything come what might, for the sake of having you near,
Despite a  warning voice, that sings in my ear…
Don’t you know.. little fool, you really can’t win….”

Suddenly, the song stopped, as Vrednak gave it a verbal command in Romulan.

“Well, that was nice. You haven’t lost your touch”

“No I havent” he mused, as he repressed the feelings that came back during the music.

“So, care to tell me why you are here?” She  pointed at him as she said this.

“Guess” He raised both his eyebrows  as a challenge to her.
