He took a deep breath, filling his soul with the clean salt air. He wanted to remember this moment forever.
The waves crashed again the rock studded cliffs and seagulls screeched overhead, looking for scraps and tip bits of food from generous passer-bys. Children played and built their castles on the glittering sand and shingles. Young lovers basked in the sun and their emotions of finding one another. The sun shone brightly in the clear blue sky, palm trees waved in the breeze that made the heat just bearable.
But the main reason that he had come here was stretched out before him for miles on either side. Deep sapphire sparkled majestically in the sunlight, reaching as far as the eye could see. He had been looking forward to this moment for weeks. The sleepless nights due to so much excitement were over.
A smile spread across his face. He slowly started to make his way down to the water's edge, ignoring the hot sand burning his feet. Stopping where the water met the sand, he stared down towards the ground to see small waves reaching for his feet. He was finally here and his heart soared. Taking a tentative step forward, into the sapphire depths of the ocean...
"Shay wake up, we have to get out of here!"
Seamus Harper woke immediately to his cousin's panicked voice. Rubbing his sleep filled eyes while Brendan tugged his arm to get him moving, Harper recalled his dream.
The dream was the first one that Harper could remember not screaming awake from. He tried desperately to recall details, but it was slipping away quickly, like his memory was quick sand.
"Shay, if you don't hurry up then the Ubers are gonna get us! Now come on!" shouted Brendan over his shoulder.
Harper just ran, as if in a trance, more concerned about the fading dream. He had heard stories of a planet, Infinity something, where the oceans were just like his dream, and there was a sport called surfing. The water was not sludge, there was no toxic waste or dead bodies, just crystal clear waters.
At that moment, Harper made a promise to himself that he would never break. No matter what it took, he would find a way off of Earth, find this ocean, and make his dream come true. He wanted to experience the real thing.
