Dee's Unnamed Fic: Chapter 3
“My people came from a far off realm. My people first came to the planet of your ancestors, Earth, but when your people started to go to other planets, we started to do likewise by sneaking aboard space faring vessels. The Fall did not really affect us, as we lead a separate life entirely, and our existence had to be kept a secret. However, we’ve gotten word that those of my people who stayed in our realm of origin are in deep danger and we must find a way to help them. See, the connection between the realms that my people have kept has been cut off. We’ve asked your help because you seemed trustworthy.”
“You mean that you need a way to travel to different realms? I know just who to call.”
Days later, in the human quarter of the Sinti capital, Harper, with his engineer wife, was at home, reading Dylan’s letter.
“What does Dylan say?”
“He wants me to help him with something. Won’t say what it is, but he insists that I trust him and that he needs my and your engineering expertise. We could both go, leave the kids with your mom, and take time off.” They had fraternal twins, who were three years old: One daughter, one son.
“We could,” his wife, Melody, who had wavy blondish brown hair and brown eyes, answered. “But he can’t expect us to drop everything and go help him.”
“He doesn’t. He’s just hoping,” Harper replied. “He wouldn’t ask us unless it was important. Come on sweetie, it could be a good break for us, in more ways than one.” He said the last part with a wink.
“Okay, what the hell? Hopefully this project won’t take up a lot of our time, and it has been a while since we’ve seen Dylan, Molly, and Hugh.”
A week later, Harper and Melody were met by Dylan and Hugh.
“Hey!” Harper called out “How’s it goin’?”
“Okay,” Dylan replied.
“Where’s Molly?”
“Working,” Dylan replied simply.
“Hey little buddy!” Harper greeted the young five year old.
“Hello,” the little one answer shyly.
“So boss, what do you need help with.”
“I’ll explain when we get to where we need to go.”
Once they got to the house of the old man, Dylan explained the situation.
“What? You want me to build an interdimensional portal for people who won’t let you see their faces? They could be evil for all you know.”
“Don’t be so paranoid, sweetheart,” his wife told him.
“Harper, I’ll need you to question them on how their device worked”
“Will do,” Harper answered. “With the help of Melody.”
So, Harper and Melody went and did just that, while Dylan gave Hugh some juice and laid him down for his nap. The old man had gone to visit a sister and had given Dylan free acess to the house. He then went to join them.
“Any luck?” Dylan asked.
“He claims it’s made from magic,” Harper said in his frustrated voice.
“But it is,” the voice said.
“That’s not very helpful,” Harper said.
“We need something more concrete,” Melody added.
“Don’t any of you believe in magic?”
“Uh...no,” Harper answered sarcastically.
“Your ancestors did.”
“And they also believed that Earth was flat, what’s your point?” Harper was getting impatient with this guy’s faith in magic.
“There was a time, when your ancestors were so fascinated by magic, that they wrote tales upon tales regarding magic and those who welded it.”
“They also liked to read tales of people who sucked the blood of other humans. Something I could never understand,” Harper shot back.
“Technology has rid you of your faith.”
“But it could help save your asses,” Harper replied.
More hours were spent questioning the being, when they heard Molly’s voice.
“Dylan?”
“Yeah?”
“I just wanted to say hi and to tell you that I’m taking Hugh home.”
“Glad to see that you are returning home earlier,” Dylan said.
“Hey Molly!” Harper said.
“Harper?”
“The one and only. Melody’s here too.”
“How are you?” Melody asked.
“Fine.”
“Why don’t you come join us?”
“Well, I thought I’d make dinner, and see to it that Hugh takes his bath. Well, I’ll see you all later.” Molly thought that it would be best if she give Dylan some space.
Sensing that they wouldn’t get any info about the interdimensional portals aside from the fact that they were magic, they decided to do some of their own research. However, they had one more question.
“How about letting us see how you look like?”
And so he came out. The being had purple skin, was about 60s centimeters tall, had light purple eyes, and black hair.
His appearance did not shock them, as they were used to meeting different forms of life.
“Why did you keep your existence a secret, Even after humans became a space- faring race?" Dylan asked. “If we could get used to being with species from other planets and galaxies, why not other realms?”
“We have our reasons,” he replied.
“What’s your name?” Dylan asked.
“Call me Elrond.”
“Okay,” Harper replied.
“I’m sorry, but I must go now.” And so he went.
“What now?” Harper asked.
“We will do some research on theories regarding interdimensional travel. The closest thing to actual interdimension travel I’ve heard of is of a Than High Guard captain named Water Reflecting the Beautiful Winter Moonlight, found that an unknown being with green skin and pointy ears had teleported into her ship. The person said that he was from an alternate universe. Eventually, to make a long story short, he was able to go back. His last words to the captain were ‘Live long and prosper, and he did this odd thing with his fingers, which the captain could not respond with, nor could most of the human crew, whose hand formations were similar to his.”
The next day, the trio went to the library and search thought its contents and the local commonwealth database for any information on theories on interdimension travel. The only thing they found was an elaboration of Dylan’s story and some theories done by some physicists.
“Just great. All we have is theories.”
“Like I say...”
“I know...you love putting theory into practice,” Harper finished.
“How’d you guess?” Dylan asked with a smile.
