kwackers old z 400 twin,i had two of theese.the first was bought for 200 punts (irish) and turned out to be a load of scrap.it never ran right and was an electrical diaster. a stripdown showed the engine to be in a bad state, the cam was knackered. after sourcing a cam i traveled to the kawasaki centre to get a top end gasket set. £140 to you sir !!!. no fuckin way i replied, you can stuff it where the sun dont shine .that was the end of z400 number one.back in 92 £20 would have bought a full cb400 gasket set.
about a year later i spotted another one in a local mag.great condition , £400,taxed etc etc.i traveled 110 miles to discover the owner was a lying fucker. after much name calling and threats of violence over wasting my time he dropped the price to £200.it had the wrong points installed and was running crap but i decided to take a chance. i got it home and tidied it up and got it the right points . it had good power but had massive vibrations all through the rev range.it felt pretty good on the road.two slash cuts were installed for sound effects.i started customising it but a cb750 chop entered the pic and the ol z got left in the corner of the shed for almost a year.a guy paid me £560 for the z and all the spare parts id collected.he was convinced they were destined to become classics, im not so sure.
