Brenda and Dylan enjoy a picnic in the back of Myrna's limo, but their thoughts quickly turn from food to romance as Brenda whispers that the time is right for the two of them to make love. However, the young couple's plans are waylaid when Dylan is stopped by the police and arrested for the theft of Myrna's diamond earrings. Convinced of Dylan's innocence, Brenda approaches her father for help, but her pleas fall on deaf ears. "I'm not about to post bail for someone who tried to steal from me," Sam rages, unaware of Myrna's part in framing Dylan. Swayed by Brenda's conviction, Tyler agrees to represent Dylan free of charge.

Meanwhile, on the eve of Zed and Jenny's remarriage, Clarissa pays a final visit to Baxter prior to his leaving for California. The two share a bottle of wine and a lot of memories before Clarissa states her intention of marrying Mark. But at the last moment, she is unable to tell Baxter good-bye and the two end up in each other's arms, and finally, making love. By the cold light of morning, their passion remains undiminished and Clarissa realizes, "For the first time in ten years, everything seems absolutely right." Stricken with guilt and remorse, Clarissa arranges for a meeting with Mark, who is still on cloud nine in anticipation of his approaching wedding. Haltingly, she tells him that she had been with Baxter and that for her and Mark to go ahead with their wedding plans would be a mistake. With tears in her eyes, she returns Mark's ring and leaves.

Ironically, unaware of Clarissa's decision, Paula has swallowed the last of her sleeping pills and settles back waiting for them to take effect. Sloane discovers her mother's seemingly lifeless body and rushes her to the hospital while berating herself for not recognizing the loneliness and pain that forced her mother's hand.

In contrast to this grim scene, friends and family assemble for Zed and Jenny's wedding. During the reception, Baxter makes an effort to clear the air by apologizing to Mark for what has happened, but his apology falls on deaf ears. "I'm sorry, Baxter, but you'll have to excuse me if I don't congratulate you and Clarissa," Denning replies coldly.

Sloane tracks her father down and, while at the hospital, fills him in on Paula's comatose condition. Mark suffers guilt pangs, afraid that the news of his impending marriage to Clarissa drove Paula over the edge, but Sloane comforts him. She points out that Paula would have to have learned the news sooner or later. While Paula lies unconscious in her hospital bed, Sloane rails against Clarissa, blaming her for her mother's suicide attempt and Mark's depression: "Clarissa's so wrapped up in her own little world. It never dawns on her that people's lives are affected by her whims!"

Later, both Sloane and Mark hit the ceiling upon discovering that the venomous Vera Sweet has focused on Paula in her gossip column. "Those in the know speculate Mrs. Denning's suicide attempt was a response to the Denning-McCandless wedding rumors," the column says. Clarissa offers Mark solace, blaming herself for Paula's actions, but Mark is philosophical: "Paula was the one who hoarded the pills and made the final decision to take them."

Sloane still finds it difficult to envision her old friend Prince Ali as the leader of a rebel army back in his homeland. In an effort to turn her mind back towards her work, Zed suggests to a very receptive Sloane that she try to arrange for an exclusive interview with Ali, a reporting coup that would blow Vera Sweet right out of the water. Mark seconds the idea, provided that the renegade prince is still alive!

When Sloane and her father learn that Paula has finally regained consciousness, their relief is short-lived when they are confronted by a bitter and resentful woman. Far from being thankful, Paula rebukes Sloane and Mark for their interference, and cries out mournfully, "Why? Why didn't you just let me die?"

Sam has troubles of his own as he learns that not only has Brenda defied his orders by visiting Dylan in jail, she has also arranged for him to be represented by Tyler. Under questioning by McCandless, the sad facts of Dylan's broken home life emerge, complete with an alcoholic mother and abusive stepfather. Dylan's unhappy past comes back to haunt him during his arraignment, as Myrna's damning testimony is followed by the judge's refusal to grant Dylan bail when it is learned that a complaint against Dylan, sworn by his mother two years earlier charging him with assault and battery, is still outstanding!

With Kelly and Jordy's help, Leanne arranges a dinner party for Thomas to thank him for his kindness during her hospital stay. While Leanne is sequestered in the kitchen, Thomas is appalled to learn from Jordy that Leanne's sister Kate has steadfastly refused to participate in the bone marrow transplant that could save Leanne's life. During the course of the dinner party, Thomas's trained eye can't help but take in Leanne's obviously flagging energy as she excuses herself to lie down for a few minutes.

Seeming to have bounced back completely the next morning, Leanne enthusiastically responds to Wally's suggestion that they all go dancing at Corky’s. Jordy is reticent, fearing that Leanne isn't up to it, but ultimately gives in to her high spirits. Jordy’s foreboding is grimly realized when, after a night of partying, Leanne collapses on the dance floor and is rushed by ambulance to the hospital!

Julie insists on pointing the finger at Myrna for planting the stolen earrings in Dylan's room. However, Brenda's suggestion that Wally might somehow be involved spurs Tyler to question his brother. Wally hits the roof for even being considered a suspect: "This lowlife gets caught with his hand in the till and you turn around and accuse your brother of framing him!" Desperate to discover who's lying, Tyler again questions Myrna, who inadvertently exposes herself as the jewel thief! The district attorney rakes Myrna over the coals, much to Brenda's delight and Sam's humiliation, and Dylan is finally vindicated.

As the situation in war-torn Baracq heats up, both Trey and Sloane find themselves involved in the intrigue generated by the charismatic rebel leader, Ali. Trey takes umbrage at a televised plea Ali makes on behalf of his people for government assistance and is assigned to a congressional fact-finding committee traveling to Baracq to determine whether or not American dollars are being well spent. Meanwhile, Sloane is desperate to snag a personal interview with her royal chum. She's convinced it would give her television news magazine the ratings it needs to stay on top. Zed gives Sloane his blessing as she prepares to fly to Baracq and track Ali down amid the fighting. Each unaware that the other is making the trip, Sloane and Trey bid friends and family good-bye. Trey's visit with Leanne at the hospital is particularly poignant as he realizes he may never see Leanne alive again.

Doctors are cautioning Jordy to expect the worst as Leanne's condition rapidly deteriorates. In a last ditch effort to save his young lover's life, Jordy again places a call to her sister, Kate, to plead with her to go through with the bone marrow transplant that could save Leanne's life. But Kate refuses to speak with him. A bitter Jordy sends Kate a bottle of champagne with a card that reads, “Congratulations. You got your wish. Leanne is dying.” Jordy is praying at Leanne’s bedside when the door to her hospital room opens and a stunned Jordy sees Kate standing there, fearful and defiant. She only has one question: "The operation - will it hurt?" Racing against the clock, doctors test Leanne's sister Kate's bone marrow for compatibility and find it is a perfect match! While the operating arena is prepped for the transplant, Jordy questions Kate's reasons for changing her mind about going through with the procedure. "You said Leanne would die without me. You said it was like murder. I just couldn't do that," she explains. However, Kate has no intention of forgiving her sister for what she considers to be the irresponsible murder of their parents. Thomas completes the bone marrow transplant and Jordy maintains his lonely vigil at Leanne's bedside. All they can do now is wait.

Back at the Clegg mansion, Sam orders Myrna to beg Dylan's forgiveness for effectively destroying his life, but her humble apology falls on deaf ears as Dylan swears to put as much distance as possible between himself and the Clegg family, Brenda included. Neither Sam's offer of a full college scholarship nor Brenda's tearful pleas change his mind. Finally, Brenda breaks down and admits that she loves him, but her confession comes too late as Dylan walks out the door.

Myrna joins Jordy at the hospital, tail between her legs, and vows to earn his forgiveness for the unconscionable way she treated Leanne, but Jordy barely hears her as Leanne's eyes flutter open, the first positive sign that the transplant has succeeded and that Leanne might live after all.

Meanwhile, Sloane and Trey are mutually dismayed to find each other searching for the elusive Ali in Baracq. Neither is having much luck as the fighting on both sides intensifies, bombs dropping all around them. The danger surrounding them inevitably heightens the sexual atttraction that Trey and Sloane once shared, but both fight to resist their latest passions.

Worried about her physical safety, Zed orders Sloane to return to the States but she defies him, sneaking a message to a hotel servant to deliver to Ali's camp. Over a late night brandy, Sloane and Trey reminisce about their life together, Trey pointing out that it took a trip halfway around the world and a revolution to get them back on speaking terms. The two former lovers resist a second nightcap and what it might lead up to and Sloane retreats to her room, unaware of the dark stranger who is waiting for her in the shadows.

Sam and Jordy rally around Leanne as her condition improves. Even cynical sister Kate voices her gratitude when Thomas announces that the bone marrow transplant has answered their prayers and Leanne's chances for survival seem assured. But the truce between the sisters remains a rocky one as Kate considers whether or not to stay in town long enough for her and Leanne to come to terms with their differences. Her decision is made for her when she finds herself fired from the Broadway play and Sam generously offers Kate the run of the Clegg mansion while she considers her options.

As Kate prepares to move in, Brenda, despondent since Dylan's departure, gets ready to move out. Myrna's conciliatory overtures are met with hostility as Brenda accuses her mother of trying to use money to cover up all their problems. Brenda packs a bag and hits the streets, holing up in a rented room, but she soon learns that both her age and inexperience are formidable stumbling blocks when it comes to making it on her own.

Meanwhile, halfway around the world, a messenger guides Sloane across the burning desert for a dramatic rendezvous with Prince Ali. Her reception is a strange one as she arrives at Ali's mysterious tented city after an exhausting journey by jeep and camel. The rebel prince remains conspicuous in his absence as Sloane is catered to by various servants, but as night falls he makes a dramatic entrance on horseback from across the desert sands. Sloane and he share a sumptuous dinner and make tentative stabs at renewing their old friendship, when it becomes immediately apparent that the old romantic tensions are still running strong beneath the surface.

Sloane voices her desire to report to the world what Ali and his cause are all about, but Ali refuses all publicity until his dream of freeing his people from Abdullah's tyrannical grasp is realized. Sloane is impressed and strangely moved by Ali's devotion to his countrymen, and even more impressed by the man himself. As the night progresses, the two of them are drawn closer together. The evening culminates in a passionate lovemaking session, which takes both Sloane and Ali by surprise. Sloane agrees to accompany Ali into the desert for twenty-four hours in an attempt to understand the sacrifices he is making for his people, blithely unaware that both are being stalked by an assassin.

Zed positively identifies Victor's body, learning that his father-in-law was the victim of a gangland-style killing for cooperating with the government as a friendly witness. Although Jenny is completely shattered by the news, she is determined to track down her father's killer. When Baxter hears about Markham, he consoles Zed but cryptically urges his friend not to stir the ashes or he may bring down a whole new world of trouble on both Jenny and himself.

Brenda is befriended at a local diner by a young waitress named Elsie who, unbeknownst to Brenda, nurses a heavy crush on Dylan. Elsie convinces the unemployed Clegg to waitress for her while she plans a rendezvous with Dylan at Corky's. Brenda reluctantly agrees but her stint as a waitress proves disastrous. She bungles orders, breaks dishes and causes such tumult that she is summarily fired by the irate owner. Later, Brenda returns to the diner, still out of work and licking her wounds. As she listens to Elsie rhapsodize about the new love of her life, Dylan walks in and he and Brenda come face to face.

At Corky's, Wally refuses to take the stage when he learns that Darlene has brought a record producer friend of hers up from Nashville to hear him sing. She tricks Wally into joining her onstage and the two sing a duet that is a smashing success. A young record producer named DJ hands a jubilant Wally his card, and urges him to give a call if he's really serious about a recording career.

Ali and Sloane continue their romantic idyll in Baracq as Ali shares his country and his people with her. The handsome prince gives Sloane the fabled "Hand of Fatima," an ancient symbol meant to insure protection to the wearer. Prophetically, it comes in handy when Ali successfully foils an assassination attempt on his life. The rest of the lovers' time together is spent making love as the final battle between Ali and Abdullah looms at dawn. Before they part, Ali makes one final request: if anything should happen to him, Sloane must promise to carry the message of his hopes and dreams for Baracq's people to the rest of the world. She tearfully gives her word and they seal the bargain with a kiss. Sloane returns to Karistah; Ali rides off to war.The fighting intensifies in Baracq as a weary Sloane returns to the hotel, much to the relief of Trey and Hubert. Sloane remains close-mouthed about the time she spent with Ali, but Hubert reads between the lines and picks up on the romance between the two. The feeling is not lost on Trey, either, and creates strange undercurrents between him and his exwife.

Sloane refuses to leave Baracq when all U.S. citizens are ordered to evacuate, waiting instead for  word that Ali is safe.  Everyone is stunned when word comes over the radio that Ali has been killed on the battlefield! Trey manages to convince a bereaved Sloane to return home with him, and as she prepares to leave she fondly recalls the time spent with the young prince. Her tears turn to elation as a messenger delivers to her a sure sign that Ali is alive and well: a bronze falcon, the symbol of Ali's royal family. Secure in the knowledge that her lover is well, Sloane gets ready to go home and tell his story to the world. But first, she takes a trip to the palace to say good-bye to Ali in person.

Kelly is unhappy to run into D.J. again at Aries, where she has a meeting to plan an art auction fund-raiser for Trey's party. D.J. represents an unhappy part of her past that she would sooner forget, and Kelly is further dismayed to learn that her old "friend" will also be working on the charity auction. Meanwhile, Wally and D.J. discuss the fledgling singer's future, D.J. counseling that if Wally is really serious about making it in the music business, he's going to have to put himself completely in D.J.'s hands. Wally later admits to Darlene that he's never wanted anything as much in his whole life as this chance to hit it big as a singer. Kelly is less than enthusiastic about Wally getting mixed up with D.J., but keeps her opinions to herself, allaying her anxieties with a little too much alcohol.

Leanne is released from the hospital with a clean bill of health and her homecoming is celebrated over dinner at the Clegg mansion. Jordy continues to be suspicious of Kate and her motives, especially when Kate fudges over details of a supposedly big movie she's up for. Kate continues to ingratiate herself further with Sam, so for his sake and for Leanne's, Jordy decides to give Kate the benefit of the doubt, but keeps an eye on her.

Baxter delivers the eulogy at Victor's service but is distracted by the presence of a heavily veiled woman sitting at the back of the church. Unbeknownst to Clarissa, Baxter keeps a rendezvous with her later, where it becomes obvious that they have a shared past....

A breathless Sloane arrives at the royal palace in Karistah to exchange final farewells with Ali. The two lovers cling to each other passionately, facing an uncertain future which dictates Sloane's return to Washington and Ali's long and arduous task of rebuilding his country. Each must face his or her individual destiny alone.

Back in the States, Zed enthuses over the footage of Ali that Sloane brought back. Sloane throws herself into her work to prepare her exclusive interview for the premiere edition of Washington Eye. But privately Sloane's heart just isn't in her work as she thinks about Ali, dreaming about the day they will be reunited.

Sam phones Sloane in an effort to discern Trey's whereabouts, but the congressman has seemingly disappeared, fueling Kelly's worries and her growing problem with alcohol. Sam's mind, however, is on Baracq, not Kelly. He ponders the fate of his oil interests in Baracq now that his good friend Abdullah is no longer in power. Leave it to the conniving little Kate and her magic fingers to massage all of Sam's worries away as she continues to ingratiate herself into the Clegg family.

Kate's tenure as a permanent houseguest is threatened when Jordy reveals that all her talk about her film deal is just talk. However, Sam comes to the guileful young actress’s defense, and Kate's position as Sam's new pet is more secure than ever. Myrna had better watch out for this little hussy and think more about her home life and less about sticking her nose into Sam's business concerns. Sam warns his wife to keep her sticky fingers off of his publishing interests, She magazine in particular. Crafty Kate encourages Myrna's extracurricular activities in an effort to consolidate her position as Sam's helpmate.

Baxter and Clarissa make plans to elope, guarding their secret from friends and family, but Baxter is keeping another secret. Remember the mystery woman at Victor's memorial service? Baxter meets with her, the lovely Carla St-Anne, an old friend from the days of Baxter's exile on Columbe. The connection between Baxter and this mystery woman is unclear, but somehow tied to Victor's death. Carla plans a return to the Caribbean island at the same time Baxter suggests to Clarissa that they honeymoon in Columbe....

Unaware of Carla's connection to Baxter, Clarissa makes idle conversation with her at the airline office, babbling about her plans to honeymoon in Columbe. Later, Carla berates Baxter for not telling her about he impending nuptials. She is appeased somewhat when Baxter assures her of a rendezvous once he reaches the Caribbean isle.

The McCandless clan, Darlene and Brenda in tow, surprise the newlyweds as they emerge from the chapel. Baxter mistakes the popping of champagne corks for gunfire and moves to protect Clarissa. Once assured that he is surrounded by family, Baxter joins Judson in toasting Clarissa and their new life together. When they are ensconced in their tropical retreat, Baxter explains to Clarissa that Victor's sudden death put him on his guard, and he declares his intention never to let any harm befall his beloved wife. But while Baxter and Clarissa cuddle, the mysterious Carla lurks in the shadows....

Despite Kelly's fears, the art auction fund-raiser at Aries is a huge success. She gets through the ordeal with a little help from D.J. and one of his "harmless" little pills that calm Kelly's nerves. Kelly believes D.J. when he explains that he's not the man she knew five years ago, leaving her a bonus package of pills.

At Corky's, D.J. sets the wheels of Wally's musical career in motion. Brenda eagerly joins the team as DJ's new secretary, unaware the D.J. is more interested in the Clegg name than Brenda's short-hand. The new job suits the runaway Clegg to a tee as she strives to put all memories of Dylan behind her.

D.C.'s answer to Barbara Walters, Sloane frantically prepares Washington Eye for its television debut. Not heeding Zed's assurances that her extensive coverage of Ali in the Baracquan battlefields will guarantee them a hit, Sloane fervently wishes that Ali could have done the interview live in Washington. She may as well have rubbed Aladdin's lamp as the romantic rebel leader materializes just before air time! Sloane ratings rise as does the body heat between her and Ali, but Sloane resigns herself to a cold shower as Ali flees the studio directly after the interview. Later, Ali once again proves that bedroom windows are for climbing into as he surprises the scantily clad journalist in her boudoir....

Clarissa and Baxter continue their romantic idyll on Columbe under the care of Tirese, a blind old native woman who has tended to Baxter since he was injured over the Caribbean. To Baxter's dismay, she gifts Clarissa with an amulet credited with protective powers but the magic seems to have lost its spell as crafty Carla spies on the newlyweds through binoculars. Who is this woman and what does she want, Clarissa might well query. Recognizing Carla as the same woman she spoke with at the airline office, Clarissa approaches her, but Carla turns tail and runs. Naturally, Clarissa's suspicions are aroused. Baxter's attempts to make light of the episode fall flat as Clarissa thoughtfully fingers her amulet.

D.J.’s version of a regular work day recalls "Beach Blanket Bingo" as he urges new secretary Brenda to slip into a bikini for a little poolside dictation. When Wally, tomorrow's Sinatra, shows up, show business reverts to monkey business as push comes to shove and both Wally and Brenda end up playing water polo fully clothed! Dylan witnesses the whole sad scene as he arrives just in time to put D.J.'s recording studio in working order.

D.C.'s a wild and crazy kind of town as everyone gears up for the big Embassy Ball. In Spring, all thoughts turn to love as Paula manages to convince Mark to be her date for the evening. And both Sloane and the dashing Prince Ali plan to rendezvous at the party, with separate escorts, naturally, to protect the lovers from Vera Sweet's poisonous insinuations. But Sam's too tired to dance as his fears about losing his oil leases in Baracq intensify. Kate hopes to take his mind off his troubles as she urges Myrna  to fly to New York for an impromptu visit with the editorial board of She magazine, Sam's latest acquisition. Alone with Sam, Kate lets her fingers do the walking as she soothes his muscles and his troubled mind.

No one seems to be having a very good time at the Embassy as Kelly pops another tiny time pill given to her by D.J. to calm her nerves, and Sloane is publicly humiliated when Ali takes his derringdo a step too far and in front of all prying eyes whisks Sloane off the dance floor and into his waiting limo.

Back at Clegg manor, as Kate the spider is about to swallow Sam the fly, Trey calls to confirm Sam's worst fears about Ali cancelling all foreign oil leases. Kate urges drowning his sorrows with a bit of the bubbly, but the only thing popping is Sam's blood pressure as he falls to the floor clutching at his chest!

Sloane and Ali engage in a knock down, drag out fight after the Prince publicly embarrasses Sloane by dragging her out of the Embassy party. Sloane insists Ali has no consideration for her reputation as a journalist and accuses him of undermining her professional credibility with his antics. In the heat of the moment, Sloane walks out, slamming the door behind her. As furious as Sloane, Ali makes plans for an immediate return to Baracq. Sloane commiserates with Thomas. Will her career always come between her and her men, she wonders.

Sloane's concern about her reputation is not unfounded, as evidenced by the vicious diatribe in Vera Sweet's column. Taking matters into her own hands, Paula hires an intermediary to tease Vera with the prospect of getting her greedy hands on a hot manuscript detailing the very intimate comings and goings of the Clegg clan. What Paula's plans are once Vera snaps up the bait remain to be seen. Meanwhile, Ali's attempts to reconcile with Sloane go unheeded by the hostile reporter.

A shadow is cast over idyllic Columbe as Baxter meets secretly with Carla. They argue about Clarissa, Baxter assuaging Carla's fears and assuring her that the two of them will continue as before. Exactly what that relationship entails remains foggy. Baxter is adamant about his love for Clarissa, however, and feels guilty lying to her, claiming his island meetings are to tie up loose ends from Victor's estate.

Kate's queasy when Sam collapses with an apparent heart attack, and quickly hides any evidence that might point to Kate's seduction scene as the cause. The paramedics are called and Myma is summoned from New York as the family gathers at the hospital for their nervewracking vigil. Kate claims that she was in bed when Sam was struck. Later, she returns to the scene of the crime to dispose of the champagne glasses, but is shocked to find them already gone!

Trey and Jordy put their heads together to determine what might have brought on Sam's seizure. Trey suspects the trouble in Baracq had something to do with it while Kate remains Jordy's favorite candidate. These suspicions are confirmed when Grace reveals that she found a champagne-bottle and used glasses hidden away in the cupboard, and that Kate was the last on the scene with Sam....

Jenny's nerves are stretched to the breaking point as she and Zed prepare to move to the new house. Her feelings of insecurity and jealousy are fueled by an impromptu visit from Sloane, which results in Jenny completely losing control. Zed urges his fragile young wife to seek counseling and their move is postponed indefinitely.

Kate gives a bravura performance as she confesses to Jordy that she hid the champagne bottle and glasses to avoid any unseemly innuendos when the paramedics came for Sam.  Jordy doesn't buy it, but for Leanne's sake, agrees to put his feelings of animosity aside. Even Myrna is taken in by the sweetness and light, urging the young actress to extend her stay at the Clegg mansion indefinitely.

Trey and Jordy are stunned to learn that Clegg Industries may be sucked down the tubes if Ali goes ahead with his plan to cancel all foreign oil leases in Baracq. While Myrna makes plans to bring her aggravated tycoon home, Sam and Trey debrief Jordy for an impromptu visit to the foreign kingdom in hopes of convincing Ali to renegotiate their contracts.

On sunny Columbe, Clarissa is distressed to discover a letter that points to some kind of relationship between Carla and Baxter. She wonders aloud if the honeymoon is over, and if she actually knows the man she married. Her doubts intensify as Clarissa witnesses a moonlight rendezvous between the two old friends.

Romance is the last thing on Sloane's mind as she buries herself in work in an attempt to blot out all thoughts of her sweet prince. Ali bombards the dedicated journalist with calls, which go unreturned, and gifts that remain unopened. Ali's advisor, Jeffrey, urges him to consider marriage to Yasmeen, a sweet young thing whose hand was promised to him when they were young, but Ali can think only of one woman....

Sloane plans a whirlwind junket to California to rub elbows with the beautiful people, but a cunning Paris books her onto Ali's private jet. Once airborne, Sloane has no choice but to listen to Ali's sincere apologies and pleas for reconciliation. A mutual understanding is eventually reached, but when Ali asks Sloane to accept his ring, Sloane allows her head to rule her heart and refuses him.

Is the honeymoon over for Baxter and Clarissa? It appears so when Clarissa witnesses a tender moonlit scene between her husband and Carla. Baxter is hard pressed to understand why his wife suddenly seems so distant. Making matters worse, Clarissa allows Tirese to escort her to a native island hoedown. Staring deep into the flames of a ritual bonfire, she is horrified at a vision of Baxter and Carla in a clinch that leaves little to the imagination!  Once Clarissa admits her suspicions to Baxter, he hastily explains that Carla was Victor's mistress and lived on the island with him for many years. It is only Baxter's legal involvement with his late friend's estate that has brought him into contact with Carla.

Sloane refuses to accept Ali’s royal ring, explaining yet again that she places career over cuddling. But the cold war is definitely warming up as Ali whisks his one and only to Tokyo for dinner, and sushi makes way for sheets as the two once again fuel their passions underneath the covers. Sloane isn't kidding when, gasping for breath between lovemaking sessions, she admits to the Prince that she's falling in love.

Kelly relies more and more heavily on D.J.'s little pills to get her through the day. She and D.J. were once an item, Kelly reluctantly confides to Leanne, but things isn't work out between them. The astute Leanne observes that D.J. still seems to be carrying a torch as the smooth record producer talks Kelly into attending a party he's throwing to showcase Wally. At first Kelly has no intention of going but she changes her tune when she discovers she's out of pills. At the party, D.J. plays cat and mouse with Kelly, proffering the bottle of pills just out of reach, and then stealing a passionate kiss. Kelly runs off, sans pills, sans relief, as an unsuspecting Trey waits for her at home.

Sloane appears at DCAP with Ali in tow, where they conduct another on-camera interview, minus the sexual overtones. Too soon it's time for Ali to go, and the prince sacrifices the private man for the public one as duty calls. Before departing for Baracq's oil-rich shores, Ali swears his undying devotion to Sloane.

Baxter finally introduces Clarissa to the mysterious Carla, but what does he expect, love at first sight? Out of Clarissa's earshot, Carla cryptically hisses that Baxter and his bride would be wise to eighty-six the island while the going is good. That's what Carla plans to do as soon as she can hustle back to Victor's pied-a-terre to pack. But it seems the travel gods have other plans for her as an explosion rips through the cottage! Nothing is left but smoky rubble. A horrified Baxter surveys the scene, afraid to believe the worst - that Carla is gone forever.

Kelly keeps those pills popping as the Clegg family preps Jordy for his encounter with Prince Ali. Once in Baracq, Jordy has difficulty even getting an appointment with the Baracquan leader, but once his foot is in the door, the two go at it hammer and tongs. Jordy's not bad, but he's no match for the deft arbitrator, who cuts all of Jordy's arguments to shreds. Ali emerges the victor - there will be no renegotiating the oil leases at the present time.

Jordy's a wreck, apprehensive about his father's reaction when Sam learns that Jordy has let the family down and probably driven them to financial ruin. Taking a drive in hopes of clearing his aching head, Jordy finds himself in a tailspin as his car loses control and rams headlong into a ditch.

Kelly's dependence on DJ's pills is greater than she is willing to admit. Determined to shake the apparent effects of withdrawal, she faces herself in the mirror, cries out "No more!" Then she pours the pills down the drain. Next, she confronts DJ, and demands to know exactly what these pills are. DJ shrugs, "Maybe the problem is with you, not the pills.” he says smugly.

The steam in the famous DJ hot tub rises and temperatures soar as Meredith slides into the water with DJ for an evening of madness. The two practiced lovers entwine but their passion is interrupted when a panicked Kelly pleads with DJ on the intercom, "I need to see you. Please!" Looking at the still love-hungry Meredith, DJ casually tells Kelly, "Wrong time, baby."

Myrna is speechless as the doctor in Baracq explains the severity of Jordy's auto accident: "It's a miracle your son is alive, Mrs. Clegg." Myrna enters the room and restrains her shock as she looks at her son, his face heavily bandaged and fear reflected in his eyes. As Jordy focuses on Myrna, not quite sure she is really there, he cries, "Mom, I failed."

With forced calm, Myrna questions the doctor. "His face...how severe is the damage?" Gently, the doctor advises her, "Jordy will need extensive plastic surgery and there is still the chance he could lose his eye."

Summoning all her strength and determination, Myrna arranges to bring her son home to the Clegg mansion. As Jordy is wheeled in to his "home," a very unprepared Sam and Trey are there to welcome him back. As they both look at his face, swathed in bandages, their foremost emotion is fear. Beneath this mask of gauze and tape, what is Jordy's condition? The Cleggs are not comforted by Jordy's frightened, defeated gaze....

Clarissa catches her breath as Baxter cautiously explains the fire in Columbe: “Everything at Victor's house was destroyed. Carla is dead.” Clarissa is unable to shake her fear and during a sleepless, stormy night she freezes at the sight of Carla's face in the darkness outside her window!

At the sound of his wife's screams, Baxter rushes to Clarissa's side. His efforts to assure her that it couldn't be Carla are little comfort. "It was just the lightning and rain making a reflection in the window;" he explains. But later he places an urgent call to Tirese pleading for an explanation. "What if Carla is in D.C. searching for me?" he asks. The old blind lady reassures him that Carla is dead.

Ali tries as diplomatically as possible to advise King Hassad that he has no intention of honoring the agreement of the families to marry Hassad's daughter, Yasmeen. In a cold and steely voice, the king cautions Ali, "If you refuse to live by these traditions, I will be forced to reconsider the relationship between our two countries."

Sloane arrives at the palace unannounced and is whisked into the gardens by an ever-protective Jeffrey. Ali later excuses himself and meets his lover. In between kisses Ali leads Sloane from the gardens to a spot where they can be alone. A shy and sensitive Yasmeen surfaces in the moonlight and, watching Ali with this woman, realizes why her planned betrothal to Ali will never occur.

Myma is asked to leave Jordy's room while Dr.Franklin removes the bandages. After the mass of gauze and tape is removed, Jordy’s biggest fear becomes real. “What do you see?” the doctor asks. “I can’t see anything at all,” a devastated Jordy admits.
