Los Angeles Police Department (Unit Identification System)

The Los Angeles Police Department uses radio call signs to identify different units. An example would be 15Lincoln40. The following listings should help explain what each call sign means. The call sign is divided into three different parts. The first part is the division number. In the example, the first part is a 15, therefore the division is the North Hollywood division. The second part of the call sign is the unit type. In our example, Lincoln identifies the unit type, and Lincoln means that that units is a lieutenant. And the final part is the unit number. In our example, the unit number is 40.
