New VHF Frequencies.
*Note: These frequencies are confirmed,
and should be in use by the KCoFD in Mid-November 2004. Radio Technicians are
currently testing these frequencies. PL Tones listed are the tones the Radio
Techs are using, most likely they will be the same when the Kern County Fire

Notes about the new system:
|
· |
Kern County is in the process of upgrading their overall countywide
communications system that is 25+ years old. |
|
· |
The new system will be a microwave backbone system, including 26 microwave
links, 100 mountain top repeaters, 13 dispatch
consoles, and 2,500+ mobile and handheld radios. |
|
· |
Three phases to be completed.
-Phase 1 Site preparation (Complete): including upgrading previous
communications sites, and starting preparations on new
sites.
-Phase 2 Replacement of the Microwave System (Complete): Replacing
the current analog microwave system with a new state
of the art digital microwave system.
-Phase 3 Replacement of the Radio System (In Progress, complete Mid
November): Replace the entire radio system, including
repeater towers, handheld, in vehicle mobile radios and base
station radios. This phase also includes testing of the coverage
area, which is currently in progress. |
|
· |
Even though the new microwave system will be
a state of the art digital system, all frequencies will be in analog mode
and will be able to be monitored with any conventional scanner capable of
scanning the 150 mHz band. |
