The 3 Wiry Guys
by Will
OK, here's the real story on the "3 Wiry Guys," Ed, Brock and I. Contrary to popular belief, the name does not derive from the fact that we all came from monitoring stations and were former electronic techs; our story is much more interesting!
When Lola and I moved up to Will's Mountain she decided to heat the large
basement, so
I found some guy in
Gettysburg who was selling a HEAVY cast iron stove.
I borrowed Tom's handy-dandy Toyopet truck, and the three of us - Ed, Brock and I - proceeded to retrieve the stove, unaware of its weight.
The
man selling the stove was surprised that only the three of us would attempt such
a chore, since none of us reaches much more than 5.5 feet in
stature. Well, we
were able to lift the stove onto Tom's truck, and we headed for the mountain.
Some of you may remember the steep flight of stairs going down into the basement. With Lola's supervision and hysterical cries, we finally got the stove down, step by step, and had it installed.
I believe it was Ed who remarked, "Hey, we may be small but we're wiry!"
And that is all there is to that. It doesn’t seem like much now, but as they
say, "You had to be there." At the time it struck us all so funny, we
laughed like crazy and we became
known from that moment on as "The 3 Wiry Guys."
When we left Will's Mountain I was fortunate to acquire the services of Lloyd's Heavy Lifting Services, Inc., to remove the stove. Wise-guy that he is, Lloyd showed up with a LARGE truck and a dolly. Would you believe he got the stove out of there, all by himself, with only me to supervise him?
That's our story - and we’re sticking to it!
